The Kids are Home... Now What?

Making the most of the school closure

Dear Williwaw Families,

How I wish our library was filled with your children! As a parent, I know the days are long when school is canceled. It can be stressful, and can cause anxiety. Did you know that reading (even for only 6 minutes) is one of the best ways to reduce stress levels by more than two thirds? For many, it is more effective than listening to music, or going for a walk. Win-win!

I will be stocking the school Little Free Library with free books during our school closure. Below, are links to free electronic (e-book) sites. I've introduced many of these resources to students during library lessons.

I've also put together some suggested engaging & fun activities and resources for you to help the days pass more productively. From PBS Kids, here is an article, How to Talk to Your Kids About Coronavirus you may find helpful. A link to sign up for daily activities is in the newsletter. The CDC offers these tips for managing stress and anxiety during this time.

Pleas let me know if you have any questions or if I can assist you with anything.

I am thinking of your family, and wish you all well! Here in Anchorage, and across the world, we are truly all in this together!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Waitman
