A Note from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Families,
Happy Fall! As we wrap up conference week, I hope that you have all had productive conferences with your teachers. This is an important time to connect, celebrate, and find ways to continue to support each other in the ongoing growth of your child. It is a great privilege to see our gators growing each and every day.
On the 29th we will do a Glen Grove Fall Celebration at the end of the day. Many thanks to the PTA for providing ideas and materials to support the fun! Classrooms will take time to enjoy fall-themed games and the PTA will create a special “outdoor” autumn photo area on the playground. Those children that celebrate Halloween are welcome to come in their costumes. If you prefer that your child participate in an alternative fun activity instead of the classroom party at the end of the day, please let me know by adding your child to the google form here.
Please note that we have a few safety reminders for us all. We are one community and it is important that we all collectively support the safety of each other.
Masks: It is helpful if you send your child with a few extra masks each day. At times students lose, break, and simply need to refresh their masks.
Drop Off/Pick Up Car Lane: While overall the car drop off and pick up is running smoother, it is important to be careful in the parking lot when picking up your child. In particular, if you are crossing the car lane for any reason, please be mindful of the car pick up/drop off lane.
Illness: With cold and flu season approaching, we want to remind everyone of our sick procedures. If your child is sick, please keep them home so that we can keep everyone healthy and in school. One of our goals this year is to keep as many kids as possible in school each and everyday and one of the best ways to do this is to make sure that sick people stay home until they are not contagious. Thanks for your partnership with this important health protocol.
Finally, we kick off our Character Counts food drive this week. Students can drop off donations by the main office. I will also be out and about during arrival and dismissal collecting cans from families and students. Looking forward to seeing how we all work together to help our community!
From the Nurse's Office
If you need any help or support during this difficult time of the pandemic, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.
All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.
If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m. please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.

Pumpkin Character Contest
Decorated real or fake (not carved) pumpkins with completed forms (student name, teacher name, name of character or book) can be turned into the library starting the morning of October 18 and will be accepted until the morning of Friday, October 22nd. Pumpkins turned in after the 22nd will not be able to be included in the contest but will be displayed. Students will vote for 5 categories during their library time. The winning pumpkins will be announced Friday, October 29 on the morning announcements. The students will receive handmade ribbons made by GG students. If a student is unable to get a pumpkin, Mrs., Funke will provide them with one. Everyone who would like to participate will have the opportunity.
It is the responsibility of the students to collect their pumpkin characters by Friday, November 5. Pumpkins left in the library will be disposed of after that date.
Here are the 5 categories:
1. The most creative use of materials
2. The best representation of a character
3. The best representation of a hero or villain
4. The most unusual character representation
5. The best representation of a book
