School Newsletter - 13th Edition - 18th August 2022
from the principal
Dear Families
Welcome to week six of term 3!
Camp
Year 4 were lucky to attend a fabulous camp last week at Gundiwindi Lodge. They had a great time and were so good. They engaged in loads of entertainment from trampolining to flying foxes , giant swings and feeding farm animals. Heaps of other activities were on the menu to ensure our kids had a great time.
100 Days
Our Foundation students looked amazing as they celebrated 100 days of school last week. Their comments about old people were priceless!
Incursion
Pinocchio visited Bourchier St last week. He entertained many students helping all to remember this fairy tale.
This incursion was another free experience for our children thanks to the government’s positive start program.
Transition
Transition is this week on Friday afternoon for our 2023 Foundation students. Transition is a good time for these students to get to know us and our school before they formally start. If you are aware of anyone who has not enrolled yet please mention it to them.
Fund raising
Our pie drive was most successful. Thank you to those families who supported it. I am sure you will enjoy the pies for dinner on one or two of these cold winter nights.
Our chocolate drive is the next fund raiser. Chocolates are being distributed Friday.
We do not have many fund raising events however we do appreciate your support. The money we raise goes straight back into playground and classroom equipment to assist our children’s learning, socialisation and well-being. We are doing a second order for Cadbury Chocolate, so you can order via QKR up until Thursday 25th August.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry focus this term is Sustainability. Many teams have taken on a Science theme. Our Year 5s have had Science Thursdays and our Year 3s are about to launch into some science experiments. Hopefully we have sparked some inquiring minds to continue an interest in building their scientific knowledge.
Winter Sport
Our Years 5 and 6 students have commenced participating in winter sport competing against other school. It is a special time when they get to play a sport that perhaps they have not played before. It is more about being part of a team and having some fun than about winning. Being a good sports person is certainly emphasised and we are proud of how our children behave and represent our school.
Absence
Remembering to pack a mask for your child is appreciated. We are doing our best to help stop the spread of COVID. Please ensure you test if your child displays symptoms and if positive keep them home for 7 days. Our absent data is still quite high but we are hopeful to have all children attend more regularly as our weather improves. Please let us know via compass or phone if your child needs to be absent from school.
Thanks for supporting out great school
Kind regards
Denise

Bourchier st Artists
The work in the front office hallway is inspired by the Artist Friedrich Hundertwasser who had strong links with Art and Architecture. Buildings were constructed based on his architecture and love of bold colours, irregular shapes and curved lines. The grade 5/6’s drew inspiration from this to make an artwork featuring buildings, using collage and magiclay.

YEAR 6 CANBERRA CAMP Wednesday 7th DEC to SAT 10th DEC 2022
reporting covid positive
Reminders
Monitor closely for symptoms. Children must stay home and get tested if showing symptoms. If test positive, isolate for 7 days until negative. Notify the school that your child has tested positive.Test twice a week during school time.
We need everyone healthy and fit so that learning at school can continue. We all know what remote learning is like and we dont want to go back to that.
Please talk to your children about the importance of mask wearing and please send a mask each day to school with your child. Our junior school children are not required to wear a mask but we certainly encourage it if they are comfortable to do so.
If your child is a household contact they must take 5 rapid antigen tests (RATs) over 7 days and receive negative test results and wear a face mask (if over 8 years old) in indoor spaces.
Children who have had COVID do not need to test for 30 days after isolation has ended..
If your child tests positive please register this on COVID Test Portal or call the school to inform us and we will register for you. Please do not register negative results.
Please consider getting your child vaccinated if you have not already done so.
