During the American Revolution, I commanded the Continental Army. I commanded the Battle of Saratoga which was an American victory and the major turning point of the Revolutionary War. This war proved to the French that we had what it takes to win the war so they finally agreed to help us in the war. After the surrender of Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown and after the war, I was elected the first president and served from 1789 to 1797.
