- We will continue working on our fREADom reading. No, that is not a typo. :)
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become. The kids really have fun doing this!
- Reading Vocabulary Words/Phrases: actions, best shows, best summary, conclude, contributes, events, future events, hints (We are in review. These should look familiar.)
- Reading Vocabulary Quiz: Thursday, January 9, 2019
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
The students will continue researching key figures that helped write and participated in the Declaration of Independence. They will include facts such as, date of birth, key position the individual held, what influence they had on the independence, etc. They will be creating a Smore flyer, much like the one Thomas Paine wrote, persuading others to side with freedom.
Dates to Remember:
Friday, January 19th: Club Day
Monday, January 21st: NO SCHOOL! Martin Luther King , Jr., Day!
Monday, January 28th: College Day! GO BOBCATS!
How Can You Help Your Student Practice At Home?
I have uploaded our spelling and reading vocabulary words to Quizlet. www.quizlet.com The kids know their username and password. I had them write this information in the very front of their agendas, but just in case, it is: Username: meunicorn2016 password: unicorn5. They can log on and do flash cards and play games to study. They won’t need to know the definitions for spelling, but they are there to play games with if they would like. This is a great site and can be accessed from your PC, MAC, iPad, smart phone, etc. This is a great tool for studying, and it’s FUN! Your student can also log onto, https://educationgalaxy.com/, to work on their reading. They know their password and username for this site as well. These usernames and passwords are user specific, and were given to them on laminated cards. This is a great tool to help them improve their reading, plus it provides data for you and I so that we can monitor the progress of your student.
