The Cold War

What was the Cold War?
The Cold War was an era of tension and distrust among the U.S. and the USSR. After World War Two, the USSR planned to expand and spread communism throughout Eastern Europe. The U.S. On the other hand wanted to spread democracy throughout European land and they were not keen on communist takeover. The United States was willing to help support any country that wanted to prevent a communist takeover and they did so. There were high points and low points of the war such as the space race and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Eventually the two sides came to terms with one another.
The Space Race
A race between the U.S. and the Soviets to land a man on the moon.
The Berlin Wall
The USSR put up walls around their section of Berlin trapping many inside of the walls.
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviets had positioned nuclear weapons in Cuba and that panicked the U.S. because they were so close.

Things that happen throughout the world and the U.S. during the Cold War.
Assassination of JFK
The Berlin Wall comes down
The US negotiates with Gorbachev and convinced him to tear down the wall.
The Vietnam War
The US helped southern Vietnam defend itself against communist North Vietnam.
