Longfellow Newsletter
Week of August 17th-23rd
A Message from Principal Webb
Each week you can find school news, events, and links to several resources. Please look for the Longfellow Newsletter (smore) from me each week.
Ice Cream Social/Back to School Night is August 21st from 5:30-6:30. Hope to see you!
Teacher/Class list
Back to School Night/Ice Cream Social is August 21st at 5:30 at Longfellow Elementary. Class lists will be posted at the main entrance. Parents are welcome to find out their child's teacher by checking the front door of the school starting at noon on the 21st. Please note that homeroom teachers can change from what is in PowerSchool.
Kindergarten is flexible for the first 2 weeks of school. We take the first 2 weeks of school to get to know students and try to create the best learning environment/classlists after learning more about the students.
Carline and Drop Off Procedure!
Parking spaces are at a minimum and so I encourage all students who need to be dropped off to use the carline route. Carline is for students who (before and after school) will get dropped off by parents and picked up by parents (that are not parking and getting out of the vehicles).
If your child is getting picked up after school by carline, they will go to the gym and staff will call them by their name to exit the North doors. Please have your yellow sheet in your car window so we know who to call out to carline in a timely manner.
Students who are getting picked up (by parents that park on the street and walk to pick up student) or students who are walking/riding bikes home will exit out of their team doors.
KEY (before and after school program) will enter and exit from the North door.
Only parents/students who need to visit the office will enter the main (west side) door.
Reminder- students should not arrive before 7:45 am.- there is no supervision before this time.
Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:50 and those students eating breakfast that are not in the before and after school program will enter through the North door as well.
First Day of School is August 23rd!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: E-REGISTRATION
In preparation for the first day of classes on Friday, August 23, e-Registration will open for the 2019/20 school year on Thursday, August 1. Once registration is open, parents and guardians can log into their PowerSchool account to complete the e-Registration process by using the following link: https://iccsd.powerschool.com/public/home.html.
As a reminder, changes to attendance zones will go into effect beginning with this school year. District maps for the 2019/20 school year can be found on the District’s website at www.IowaCitySchools.org/DistrictMaps. The Attendance Area Look-Up Link provides school location information specific for your home address and can be found on the District website at www.IowaCitySchools.org/AttendanceAreaLookUp. Families that have been rezoned to a new school are not required to provide proof of residency. Any new family, or existing family who have indicated that they have moved, should provide proof of residency during the enrollment process.
Important Note: We request that you review and update the demographic, emergency contact, health information, and permissions sections in e-Registration to ensure that what we currently have on file for your child(ren) is the most accurate information. We ask that you do this prior to on-site registration for each of your children who will be enrolled in school this fall.
If you have completed e-Registration at any time before August 1, 2019, you will need to complete this process again for the upcoming school year.
Elementary Students:
On-site registration will be held on August 5 from 8:00 am-6:00 pm for all elementary schools. On-site registrationtakes place at your child's school (with the exception of Christine Grant Elementary, which will be held at the North Liberty Community Center) and is for students new to the District and those needing assistance. Completing e-Registration prior to August 5 fulfills the registration requirement and parents do not need to attend that day. Fees for elementary students can be paid online through e-Registration, at Ice Cream Social on August 21, or at your child’s school office during office hours.
