We Need To Help Tuvalu!

Lets make a difference!

About Tuvalu

Tuvalu is located in the Pacific Ocean, 805 kilometers away from the island of Fiji. Tuvalu, formerly known as Ellice Islands, consists of 4 extremely low lying islands, 5 coral atolls and over 100 islets that make up a total land area of 26 square kilometers. The majority of Tuvalu’s 11810 citizens live in Tuvalu’s capital Funafuti. The highest point of Tuvalu is only 5 meters above sea level and, as most of the island is only 3 meters above sea level, Tuvalu is at risk of submergence as sea levels continue to rise.

About The effects global warming and rising sea levels are having on Tuvalu

Rising sea levels is a result of global warming or, in other words, climate change and climate change is a result of greenhouse gas emissions caused by pollution. After extensive research scientists have predicted major climatic changes to occur internationally and one of these changes is the rising sea levels. Since the realization of the occurrence of rising sea levels climate change has been an environmental concern for Tuvalu. Tuvalu now faces immediate problems as it is one of the world's most sensitive regions when it comes to climate change. Global warming threatens Tuvalu’s already scarce natural resources such as fresh consumable water and reliable food sources and, as an underdeveloped nation Tuvalu is unprepared and unable to demonstrate resilience against global warming or any of its devastating effects.

How can we make a Difference?

We can make a difference for Tuvalu and its citizens if we make a global effort to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We can do this by taking simple steps such as changing a regular incandescent light bulb to a compact fluorescent light bulb, cleaning or replacing filters on furnaces and air conditioners, recycle recyclable waste and responsibly dispose of other waste. We could also assist Tuvalu and the rest of the world by donating money or lending time to the charities listed below as they are fighting global warming. We could also participate in events such as Clean up Australia Day. Please help me make a difference and ensure that the relocation of Tuvalu’s citizens does not happen.
