Field Trip: Aldo Leopold Nature Center

Your child has an opportunity to go on a field trip to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center in Monona, Wisconsin on October 17th. We will leave at 9:15 am, traveling by bus, and return by 2:15 pm.

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather on Monday. We will be outside for the majority of the day!

Book Review

Our next writing project will be a book review on a profession that shows responsibility. Therefore, we have scheduled for some professions that show a lot of responsibility come in and talk to us about their jobs. Today we got to hear from Officer Enger about what policemen are responsible for!

Everyday Math

This week we took our Unit 2 math test and started Unit 3. The Unit 2 math test will come back to your child today. They will then need to get it signed by you and bring it back on Monday as part of their homework. Please look at their test and the Individual Profile of Progress attached to it. Work through the problems they got wrong. By getting this assessment back, you will be able to notice your child's strengths and weaknesses on the material assessed in Unit 2.

The Everyday Math curriculum spirals, so you can feel comfortable knowing that your child will receive the instruction many more times throughout the school year. If you have any questions about the curriculum, math homework, or what is being assessed on Unit 3, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Reflect on Your Child's Writing!

Writer's Workshop

Students completed their second writing task this quarter already. Their biography posters look awesome and I would challenge you to go to my website and look at your son or daughters. The work they put in these past nine days has been remarkable and I couldn't be more proud. At the bottom of their poster is a survey that your whole family can take. Have each person read the poster and honestly fill out the form with your little author's strengths and things they need to improve on. They will be able to review your responses and focus on the improvement areas next writing class.

  • Go to Mrs. Perkins' Classroom Website
  • Find your child's writing portfolio and click on it.
  • Go to the "Biography" page at the top of their Google Site
  • Read their biographical poster and fill out the Google Form to submit your own reflection of what they did well and what they could do better!

*Ask your child: Take me to your classroom website and show me your portfolio. I want to read your biography poster and leave some feedback for you.
