Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
March 19, 2021
Only one week left until Spring Break! Students and teachers will be busy packing as much as they can into the last few days of March! In homeroom today, students were given a copy of their course requests for next school year. If a student would like to request a change (either add or drop a course), they may do so by Thursday, March 25 using this link.
April is the Month of the Military Child
Our community is dedicated to supporting local heroes and this includes our local businesses, schools and residents. The Purple Star Award for military-friendly schools recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. In an effort to better support students of military members in our community, Big Walnut Local Schools works to identify and inform teachers of the military-connected students in their classrooms and the special considerations and resources they should receive.
Thank you for your support! Be sure to wear your shirt on April 15th!!!
Spring End-of-Course Exams
The State of Ohio requires students to take End of Course Exams in these content areas: Algebra I, English I, Geometry, English II, Biology, U.S. History and American Government. If your child is currently enrolled in one of these courses, he or she will be taking the test in April (see schedule below). Sophomore students in College Credit Plus Composition will have to take the English II test. Students must achieve a score of three to be considered proficient. These tests are required for graduation.
During this testing week in mid-April, we will operate on a two-hour delayed start. Students who are not in these classes and not taking the test do not have to report until 9:40 AM. Those who are testing must report to their assigned room by 7:40AM. Room assignments will be posted in the main office. Each student must have his/her Chromebook charged and ready. Students will use these devices for testing. We also encourage a set of headphones because of the text to voice feature all students can access on all tests except English II. A calculator will be provided within the test itself, but students may bring a calculator for the math tests. Cell phones cannot be used during the test and must be turned off and put away until all students are finished with the test. Failure to do this could result in a nullification of the student’s test and school discipline.
Students who attend DACC either part-time or full-time, are expected to report to BWHS for testing on these days if they are enrolled in these courses. The DACC is aware of this.
Results will be available in early August. Detailed information about graduation requirements or practice test questions can be found at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohio-s-Graduation-Requirements or at http://www.bwls.net/bigwalnuthighschool_home.aspx. These links are also on our district website.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call your child’s counselor or the main office. Thank you for your support and good luck to all of our students.
