Northwest Montana Educational Cooperative

Director's Desk

Board Members: This month we will have an Executive Council Mtg. at 9:30 followed by our Management Bd. Mtg. at 10:30. Executive council will be considering the representative and fee structures of the Co-op. Also, I will be setting up a tentative schedule of School Board Meetings to attend. My goal is to get to at least one meeting for each school in the Co-op during this calendar year. Watch for this to come to you soon.

PIR Net Registration: Lately, we have seen an increase in no-shows to some PD sessions. We understand that emergencies arise, but we ask then when you do know you won't be able to attend something you have signed up for that you UN-REGISTER. This helps our presenters be better prepared for a successful session and reduces the amount of materials wasted. If you need help with anything related to PIR Net, just call our office (752-3302) and we will help you out.

GATES Testing is Complete: For those who may not know, every January, we give the Gates-Macginitie ELA test to all 8th grade students who will be transitioning to FHS or GHS from their partner schools. This helps to determine the number and types of English classes the high schools should offer as well as which classes are best for each individual. Thank you to Mary Buenz for proctoring, the administration and staff of our partner districts for coordinating with us and helping their students feel through the process, and to Beth Lambert for her countless hours of processing and preparing the scores for distribution. Congratulations to our 8th graders for starting their high school registration process!

ASCD Conference: Cherie will be attending the National ASCD Empower Conference from March 11-16. She hopes to bring back helpful new information and strategies for curriculum and professional development. The closing speaker will be Henry Winkler, who will share his story of a lifetime of living with Dyslexia and what we, as educators, can do for those who share this struggle. While Cherie is out of the office, Beth will still be here and available to help you.
