Module 1 Linguafolio Due Today

Your Module 1 Linguafolio Submission is due today. Linguafolio is a fun assignment (done in English) that allows you to objectively evaluate how far you have come in your knowledge and understanding of Japanese language and culture. There are no "right or wrong" answers to the questions asked in Linguafolio - just do your best to answer all of the questions and talk about how each facet of Linguafolio applies to you.

You can find the Linguafolio assignment under Course Modules > Module 1. Be sure to read the directions carefully. Still need help? Watch the video below that shows you step by step how to complete this assignment.

あります vs. います

In Japanese 1 we talked about using あります and います to describe the locations of things. Do you remember why we use 2 different verbs to help us express that things exist?

います is used for animate objects, or living things:

いまにねこがいます。 In the living room there is a cat.

うちにいぬがいます。In the house there is a do.

だいちさんはがっこうにいます。Daichi is in school.

あねはえいがかんにいます。My older sister is in the movie theater.

あります is used for inanimate objects, or non-living things:

だいどころにこんろがあります。In the kitchen there is a stove.

としょうかんにほんがます。In the library there are books.

テレビはうちにあります。The TV is in the house.

ようふくはへやにあります。The clothes are in the room.

We'll talk more about how to use these verbs all this week. Take some time to review your grammar notes today to help you prepare for lesson 5.

Mid Term Project

By now, everyone should have started their Mid Term Project. Try to work on your slide from lesson 4 today.

  • Each slide will include 4 sentences demonstrating your knowledge of the use of the grammar and vocabulary learned in each lesson.
  • Type each of your 4 sentences on the slide. No English or Romaji can be used in any part of the project.
  • Record yourself saying each sentence you wrote.
  • Include an image that goes along with what you're talking about on the slide.
  • Details on the Mid Term Project are in the Course Projects link on your left hand navigational toolbar in Blackboard.

Your Mid Term Project is due on March 17, 2016.
