DHS Mission Statement

Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development, while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.

A Message from Mr. Finkle

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our entire DHS family a happy and healthy new year! Also, thank you very much for donating food items to our annual food drive this past holiday season and making a huge difference. Please see the thank you letter from Mr. Richard Keegan, Council Officer with the Delran Knights of Columbus.

It is with deep sadness that I announce that Mrs. Lena Galati, Assistant Principal, has submitted her intention to retire at the end of this school year. Please see her letter addressing the DHS Community below. She will leave a huge void that will be very difficult to fill!

On Wednesday, January 16th, we will host our annual AP/College Accelerated Program(CAP) Information Evening. The presentation will be from 6:00 to 7:15pm and will be a new and exciting format. The administration and supervisors will give a quick general overview of our AP Program and our CAP Program and answer any questions that you have about AP, CAP and the differences! Previous attendees have raved about the evening and gave them more insight into the courses we offer here at DHS. You will then have time to review AP materials and to speak with our present AP students who are the best and most knowledgeable about making these tough decisions. They will give you their honest opinion about each course and their experiences.

Our annual scheduling meeting with the students will be held on Thursday, January 17th, where the high school administration and supervisors will highlight new courses and answer questions about scheduling courses for next year.

As in previous years, students will be choosing their elective courses from January 17th to January 23rd. Teachers have been speaking with each student this week to inform him/her about their recommendation and entering them into the Student Information System. A Waiver Form must be submitted if you and your child would like to move to a higher level than the one that was recommended. Waiver Forms should be submitted to the Guidance Department ASAP (even if the student has not yet met with his/her counselor). Waivers will not be accepted after February 28, 2019.

Our 2019-2020 Program of Studies will be published in a special Broadcast on Tuesday. Look for it in your inbox!

Each student will meet with his/her counselor beginning with the Class of 2020, 2021, and then 2022. All students should be seen by mid-March. Students will bring a form home for final review and parent signature after the meeting. Should you have any questions, please speak with your child's counselor.

Please join me for the Homecoming Forum continuation meeting from October on January 15, 2019 at 6pm as a precursor to the regularly scheduled PTA meeting. I hope to see everyone there!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.

Mrs. Galati Announces Retirement

Dear DHS Parents,

It is with a profound sense of accomplishment and gratitude that I inform you of my intent to retire as of July 1, 2019. I could not have imagined when I entered Delran High School to teach English in 1984 that I had found my professional home, and that all these years later, I would still be here, saying farewell.

My years here as a teacher of English were unequivocally my happiest. After all, I am a teacher at heart. I cherish the memories I have from the classroom: my students—many of whom are still in touch 35 years later; my colleagues-- who have been my inspiration and support even as they have come and gone.

My years as an administrator have been far more demanding. I know I have done good things, assisting teachers, parents, and students, and that I was meant to serve in this position—still teaching, just in a different way.

I believe that I have put my heart and soul into Delran High School. In return, Delran has given me everything that anyone could hope for in a career. I am so very proud of our district and its character. There is so much heart here, and I believe, kindness. My time here has been one of my life’s greatest blessings.

And so, it is with great joy that I say: My work here is done. I hope that I have advanced the academic achievement, as well as the culture and climate in our school. I thank you, dear parents, for your unwavering support over the years, and all that you have done to make our district great. I will always carry Delran in my heart, and I will always be #DHSPROUD.

Sincerely,

Lena F. Galati

Assistant Principal

Knights of Columbus Thank You!

Dear Dan,

On behalf of the Delran Knights of Columbus, I want to extend our most sincere appreciation to you, your staff, and your students for a job well-done. I’m writing you about the outstanding job Delran High School did in collecting food items for our Annual Christmas Basket Program. DHS outdid itself this year. In fact, it was the most ever collected from a single source since the program started! We ended up with three pick-up trucks filled to the brim with canned goods, package goods, and many other food stuffs that will go a long way in helping us reach our goal of providing a complete Christmas dinner to over 200 families in our community.

Our program has been an overwhelming success, due in large measure to the efforts and contributions from Delran High School. Although we have been recognized for outstanding philanthropic work in our area, we know none of this can be accomplished without the support of organizations and people like you.

We are grateful for all you have done and pledge our best efforts in continuing this worthwhile program. Also, a special “Thank You” to the group of fine students that helped us load the trucks.

Once again, on behalf of the Delran Knights of Columbus – Council 1436, please accept our warmest heartfelt thanks! Bravo!

Most sincerely,

Rich Keegan

DHS HAPPENINGS

December Student of the Month

Congratulations to John Kalina who was nominated to be our December Student of the Month!

John was nominated by Mr. Aaron Fiordimondo for his leadership, citizenship and good work ethic.

"John has never taken a shortcut even when he could, always does his best even when it's inconvenient and always makes himself available to help even when he is obviously busy. Furthermore, he communicates effectively with his peers, maintains a level of professionalism and maturity in all his endeavors and does it with a great attitude!"

Congratulations John!

Traffic Patterns During Drop off & Pick-up

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please pay close attention to all traffic patterns during drop-off and pick-up. The designated drop-off area for students in vehicles, at the beginning of the school day, is within the double lanes closest to Conrow Road and students' parking lot.

Please be aware of the marked pedestrian crossing allowing the staff and students to cross from the lot into the building. At the end of each school day, students exit the building to walk, take the buses, ride bicycles, and seek a ride. We have over 1,000 total people within the building and logistically it is very difficult to get all people out quickly. Therefore, we strongly encourage that we as the DHS Community, work together to reduce the number of drop-off and pick-up vehicles on campus between 7:15-7:30am and 2:10-2:2:25pm. We can accomplish this goal by taking the following measures:

  • Students residing on the school side of Route 130, walk to school when feasible.
  • Parents and students work a schedule of car-pooling with friends and neighbors.
  • Students eligible for busing please take advantage of it.
  • Students residing within safe bike routes consider riding their bikes on days when the weather is conducive.
  • Designate pick-up locations adjacent to campus in clearly visible locations with lower traffic congestion.

Please help us make our campus safer for everyone and do not speed on campus, park and wait in areas of campus that create obvious traffic restrictions, or impede the bus entrance or exit while waiting for your student. Thank you!

School Assembly - Speak Sobriety

On Tuesday, January 8th, Stephen Hill of Speak Sobriety presented a Vaping and Substance Abuse Prevention assembly to the students. Stephen shared his personal journey with painkiller and heroin addiction. After a decade of substance abuse, multiple failed attempts at treatment, and numerous arrests, he was finally able to achieve long-term sobriety. He hopes his story will leave students inspired and with a better understanding of addiction and recovery.

A very special thank you to the MS/HS PTA for sponsoring this assembly!

Student IDs & Lunch Charges

Beginning January 2, 2019, students that lose or forget their student identification card can utilize a breakfast/lunch charge ticket up to three times only. After the third charge, students will have to get a new Student ID at a cost of $5.00. If a student does not have money to pay for a new identification card, an obligation of $5.00 will be assigned to the student until the fee is paid. Please remind your children that they need to bring their Student ID Cards to school everyday. They need their identification cards to print in the library, at the late sign-in desk, in the nurse’s office and to purchase lunch!

Harlem Wizards VS Delran Bears

You are cordially invited to the Harlem Wizards versus the Delran Bears basketball game on Saturday, January 26th at 6pm. Doors open at 5pm. Please click here for additional information and here for tickets.

SAT/ACT Prep Class at DHS

Staffs Prep will be offering a SAT/ACT Prep class on 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, and 3/5 from 6:00 - 9:00pm in preparation for the March 9th SAT test. The course will be held here at DHS at a bargain basement price! All DHS students will be able to take this course for $250 when it normally costs $699. Parents do have to use the code "SAT200" in order to get the discounted price. Students/parents can visit www.staffsprep.com/register, search for "Delran High School" and follow the steps to register.

A testimonial from a DHS parent: My son, as well as my husband and I, could not be more pleased with the program as well as appreciative of Mr. Jain's commitment to student success. At the College Night presented by the Guidance Department, I wanted so much to encourage other families to have their children enroll in this program. Due to conflicts, my son had to postpone taking the SAT until a later month. The Staffs Prep instructor, Paras Jain, graciously allowed him to sit in on two additional classes this session to serve as a review before he takes this exam.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the Staffs Prep orgainization at contact@staffsprep.com.
