Apps That Work

Pam Evans, pevans consulting

warning (a.k.a. soap box)

This is not about the apps and tools we will use but HOW we use these apps and resources to help students interact and explore concepts. Each of these lessons could be modified to use different apps and resources. To help us think about the possibilities we will treat the tools, apps, and resources as ingredients and the lessons we create as different recipes.

It is a cloud-based video creation service that produces video from photos, video clips, and music into video slideshows. Animoto can be used in education for countless projects and presentations. Students can use the tool to present a concept. A teacher could use the video as an introduction to a lesson. What is App Smashing

Greg Kulowiec begins his session by asking, “Why limit our students to one tool at one time?” With App Smashing, students can create content with a variety of apps and then publish it to the web – don’t let content “die on your iPad.”

App Smashing is where content is created in one app, transferred to and enhanced by a second app, a third app, and so on until the final product is complete. Then preferably the product is published to the web. So when multiple apps are used to created individual pieces of content that are then merged or smashed together into one culminating product, students dramatically increase their creative potential through their work.
