Buy from the Book Fair THIS FRIDAY!

My classes will be visiting the school's book fair tomorrow and Friday the 20th. Tomorrow is intended to be a "preview day" when kids will get a chance to decide what they might want to purchase; the 20th is meant to be a "buy day" when kids can purchase what they want to. If you would like your child to purchase something from the book fair, please send cash in with your child on the 20th.

Argumentative Essay DUE Monday, 11/30

Students have been working hard over the last 6 weeks to complete an argumentative research essay. Tomorrow, students will complete the works cited portion of their essays. Students will receive instructions [tomorrow] on how to share this document with me through APS's MyBackpack program. Students need to complete their essays and share them with me by the end of the day on Monday, 11/30. They do not need to print the essay out, but they should in the event that they are unable to share for some reason. The best way to see if your child is on track with this essay is to ask him/her to show it to you in My Backpack from home. Below are links to all of the instructions, step by step, to completing the essay.

The password for Galileo/SIRS is dove.

Parents and students can access myBackpack from home by following these steps:

1. Through an Internet connection –navigate to https://mybackpack.apsk12.org

2. Students should enter their APS student computer login id.

3. The myBackPack screen will load with your unique username and password.

4. Click on the storage widget to locate the document or to start a new word document.

Read to Succeed DUE 12/2!

In order to boost students' interest and scores in independent reading, all students will be participating in Six Flags' Read to Succeed program! Every student is required to read for a total of 6 hours between now and December 2nd. Each time they read, they will log what they read, for how many minutes, and get you to initial. Students can hand the log in once they have completed the 6 hours or on December 2nd. In exchange, I will award them 6 independent reading points (equal to 6 AR points or 12 Reading Plus lessons) AND a free Six Flags ticket! The ticket can be used anytime over the summer and I will hand them out towards the end of the year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

As I'm sure many of you have heard, I have been out the last couple of weeks. I hope to return on Tuesday, December 1st. I have still been preparing lessons and working with the ELA teacher team to make sure that your kids aren't falling behind while I am out.

I am still available via email if you have any questions, and I will do my best to reply within 24 hours.

Have a safe and fun holiday week!
