THE TWO TOWNS OF JASPER

James Byrd, Jr. (May 2, 1949 – June 7, 1998) was an African -American who was murdered by three men, of whom at least two were white supremacists, in Jasper, Texas, on June 7, 1998. Shawn Berry, Lawrence Russell Brewer, and John King dragged Byrd for three miles behind a pick-up truck along an asphalt. On June 7, 1998, Byrd, age 49, accepted a ride from Shawn Berry (age 24), Lawrence Russell Brewer (age 31) and John King (age 23)The driver of the truck, Berry was the most difficult to convict of the three defendants because there was a lack of evidence to suggest that he was a racist.Berry had also claimed that Brewer and King were entirely responsible for the crime.Berry had cut Byrd's throat before he was tied to the truck. The jury decided that there was little evidence to support this claim. As a result, Berry was spared the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison. Brewer was a white supremacist who, prior to Byrd's murder, had served a prison sentence for drug possession and burglar. Brewer was sent to prison for life like Berry so that meant to people down one person to go.King was accused of beating Byrd with a bat and then dragging him behind a truck until he died.He was found guilty and sentenced to death for his role in Byrd's kidnapping and murder.

JAMES BROWN AND Martin Luther King, Jr IN BOSTON TRAGEDY

On the morning after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., city officials in Boston, Massachusetts, were scrambling to prepare for an expected second straight night of violent unrest. Similar preparations were being made in cities across America, including in the nation's capital, where armed units of the regular Army patrolled outside the White House and U.S. Capitol following President Johnson's state-of-emergency declaration. But Boston would be nearly alone among America's major cities in remaining quiet and calm that turbulent Friday night, thanks in large part to one of the least quiet and calm musical performers of all time. On the night of April 5, 1968, James Brown kept the peace in Boston by the sheer force of his music and his personal charisma. James Brown sang in boston and after that people in boston didnt have any riots.

WHAT ROLES DO LEADERS PLAY IN RESPONDING TO CRISIS AND PREVENTING CRISES

I think leaders play and important role because any leader who has not worked on his or herself will have difficulties to lead properly. Great leaders start with themselves – understanding their own foundations and being aware of their secure bases (the people, places, events, experiences, beliefs etc which have shaped them). Only from this point can one become focused on external goals and then aspire to take the fear out of others.
