Note from the Principal
Thank you to everyone for a fabulous and successful Family Literacy Night and Book Fair. It was a great evening spent with families enjoying new books, reading, learning about fire safety, and mingling around the campfires! Our school family truly showed their support and commitment to reading that night. Thank you to our Reading Committee comprised of Mrs. Fellows, Ms. Reisdorff, Mrs. Heethuis, Mrs. Louis and Mrs. Wert for their hard work and planning to ensure that the event was successful. We would also like to thank the Georgetown Township Fire Department for coming to the event and going above and beyond to make this a special night for our students and families! Finally, thank you to all of the extra volunteers (staff and parents) that helped with set up, tear down, and running stations during the event. We could not have pulled this event off without you!
Halloween Parties and Parade
Halloween Parade: The parade will start at 2:00. Parents and siblings can line up outside on the grass by the sidewalk. Students will parade through the school first, then exit out the Walker Door traveling North on the sidewalk in front of the school, and finally enter back into the school through the car line door by the gym.
Party Reminders:
Thank you to all of our volunteers that are helping out with our holiday parties this year.
All volunteers must have a recent background check to come into the building. Remember that background checks must be completed every school year. These must be done prior to the day of the event. We are not able to run background checks when you arrive at school. Please complete your background check here.
Please arrive a few minutes early because we will have a check-in table for all volunteers to ensure that background checks are on file.
During holiday parties, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. are welcome to be volunteers. Unfortunately, younger siblings are not allowed. We want the focus of our classroom parties to be on the students in the classroom. Thank you for your understanding!
Storybook Pumpkin Patch
The Alward Library is growing a storybook pumpkin patch, and we need your help! Students can decorate a pumpkin to look like a favorite storybook character and bring it to the library to “plant” in our Storybook Pumpkin Patch! See the attached document for all the details!

STEAM with Kindergarten
The kindergarten students have been learning all about structure and function in STEAM class. They’ve been reading stories, like Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs, and then analyzing the structure and function of items in the story. They engineered their own beanstalks and houses and tested them with various methods. The students especially loved when the wolf tried to blow their houses down! To conclude our unit, they will be designing, building, and evaluating their own paintbrush model. Ask your kindergartner all about what they’ve learned in STEAM!
