Welcome to Week Seven!

Remind your students to have their parents check Infinite Campus for their students first progress grades. The first progress report is up and available to view.

Monday we have our make-up picture day so if your student(s) missed their picture or if they were some of the few that the camera was not working for please let them know that Life Touch will be here all day Monday. Make-ups are going through PE classes.

On Wednesday we have Operation School Bell. This program is for students classified as Homeless. They are given a voucher for a shopping spree. It is a great program and works with families in need. You may receive several summons on Wednesday for this project.

We also have our Newcomers Lunch this Wednesday at noon. If you have a newcomer to Placerita they should get an invitation.

On Friday we have our second Museum of Tolerance Field Trip for Team Excellence. They will be gone all day.

Please plan on attending our first and only Restaurant Night for this Fall on October 10th at the California Pizza Kitchen. We will get 20% of the total for all day on October 10th. See the flyer below for more information.

We informed our parents that we have our first Placerita Parent Organization Breakfast Meeting on October 15th right after Drop-off at 8:10 in the morning. If you have something you would like for me to share with them at that time let me know and we will add it to our agenda.

I also included below a section that I sent to Parents this weekend too with several future dates attached.

Miner PRIDE and PBIS

Schools across the nation strive toward providing a safe, positive educational experience. Part of this experience includes teaching students desired behaviors that will translate into social, emotional, and academic success as they move through the educational process. To that end, many schools employ Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, also known as PBIS. PBIS is a proactive approach to teaching behavioral expectations and creating a climate where positive and appropriate behavior is seen as normal. (from PBIS Blog)

In our Wm. S. Hart School District all the Jr. High schools have a PBIS Team and have had one year of training that began during last school year. Upon experiencing the training, our Placerita team decided that we would design our own model to fit within our construct of Miner PRIDE.

Since the main focus is on positive behavior we decided to strengthen our focus on our positive reward system that already existed at Placertia through our Golden Lotto ticket system. The idea was to expand the presentation of rewards by giving students ongoing rewards for positive behavior. This would allow students to collect Golden Lotto tickets and save them for small prizes to encourage ongoing positive behaviors.

This week our PBIS Team is going to have the first distribution of prizes for multiple ticket holders. The distribution is going to take place in Collin Haynes' room (402) on Tuesday at Brunch and Bree Hammer's room (103) on Thursday at Brunch. Below is a list of some of the current options with required tickets to redeem prizes.

Prizes and number of Golden Lottos required

- golden lotto drawing 1

⁃ pencils 2

⁃ puzzles 4

⁃ books 3

⁃ jewelry kits 6

⁃ fidget spinners 4

⁃ make-up kit 6

⁃ sketch pads 5

⁃ ear buds 8

⁃ $5 McDonald's gift cards 6

⁃ Bluetooth speakers 10

⁃ Deck of cards 3

⁃ Calculators 3

Other prizes are going to be added in the future as well as a prize cart as shown in the picture below. The main goal is to regularly encourage positive behavior and in turn students can receive rewards for that behavior. The ultimate goal will be that we have a specific spot in the quad at the cart where students can regularly redeem their tickets for a multitude of items. If you have ideas for what we can add please let us know and we can discuss.

We have year two training that begins in October and we are adding classified staff and parents to our team this year. As we move through the year, more information will be shared and other parts of the program will be implemented. Anything that the Miner Pride Team decides to add will be something that fits into the Miner PRIDE program.
