A Christmas Carol Background
Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol at the age of 31. He lived in the Victorian Era of England, and realized the difference between the poor and rich. He wrote about 27 noticeable short stories, and 15 novels.
The Victorian Era took place in the 1800's, and was ruled by Queen Victorian. The Victorian Era held the industrial revolution, a time where many things were invented. The Victorian Era had no child labor or child poverty laws, so many times children where left to fend for themselves.
The Industrial Revolution of England benefited the government more than the people. Many times cities became to over crowded, leaving many homeless. Disease spread quickly, and many got sick, and died. One of the inventions made was the train, made by Richard Trevithick.
