Mountain Lion Minute
Week of November 29th
Dear Mountain Lion Families,
Today marks the first day of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Every year, Hanukkah begins on the 25th day of Kislev, a month in the Hebrew calendar. The celebration lasts eight nights and this year it's from November 28th through December 6th.
One of our 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Sarro, celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas. She shared a little bit about how she celebrates Hanukkah with her family:
"During Hanukkah, my husband's family and I gather and have a big dinner on the first night. During dinner, we eat Latkes, jelly doughnuts, apple fritters, and kugel. The food that is served during dinner is usually fried as a symbol for the miracle oil that burned for eight nights straight. After dinner, we light our Disney menorah and say some blessings. Hanukkah is a great time for my family to spend time with each other."
Hanukkah Sameach!
A Hanukkah Message from the Home and School Multicultural Committee
On behalf of the entire Multicultural Committee, we wish a Happy Hanukkah to all that celebrate. On each night of Hanukkah, a candelabra called a Menorah is lit. Traditionally, a game called, Spin the Dreidel, is using a four sided top. Each side has a Hebrew letter on it which denotes a rule of the game. When you win while playing spin the dreidel, you can win Hanukkah Gelt which is a gold colored coin filled with chocolate. Often families eat potato pancakes called Latkes or jelly donuts called Sufganiyah during Hanukkah. Check out some more information on Hanukkah at the links below!

When is live streaming available for my child?
In the event that a student tests positive for COVID-19 or is ordered to quarantine by the district or local health officials, classroom teachers will utilize the streaming technology in the classroom. The student will be able to listen to instruction throughout the day. It is acknowledged that the interactivity will be limited, but students will have access to the content presented in the classroom environment. This option is only for students who are ordered to quarantine by the district or local health officials.
Please call the school office if your child will not be attending school or email our building secretary at faiaea@npenn.org.
