Cultivating Critical Thinking and Creativity in Responsive Learning Environments
At the beginning of this school year, I asked everyone, “How will you be awesome?” As I reflect back, I can confidently say there was a lot of AWESOME at Joyceville PS! It is a place where we work hard, have fun and get involved in so many interesting, purposeful pursuits - students, parents and staff!
Each day, students have been challenged to think critically and creatively and to collaborate to solve problems. I have been amazed by their curiosity, insightful thinking, and willingness to take risks. Students have persevered through challenges and shown initiative to get involved in many areas – academics, athletics, the arts and by being thoughtful, caring citizens in our school community. There are many successes to celebrate! We are very proud of our students!
Being part of our small school is like being part of a family. Parent involvement helps foster this strong sense of community. We have many traditions and special events that make Joyceville PS unique and promote a sense of belonging. A big thanks goes to Parent Council and their team of volunteers for events such as Movie Night, Christmas Gift Room, Christmas Dinner and our very successful Country Fair. This year, they raised about $8500 in total! We are thankful for the technology purchases that Parent Council supported this year - 2 wall mounted overhead data projectors for classrooms, iPads for the Kindergarten program, and 3 Bluetooth speakers for classroom use. As well, Parent Council provided funds to cover bus cost for some athletic events and some field trips.
I feel fortunate to work with such a dedicated, positive, and talented staff. It is evident that they are here to support student achievement and well-being, our community and each other. Their enthusiasm for teaching and learning is contagious and inspirational!
This year, we have 11 Grade 8 graduates. We know that wherever they go, they will display the learning skills, fine character, perseverance, and initiative they have shown at Joyceville PS. We wish them best of luck as they head off to high school!
Reports will be coming home Tuesday, June28th. I encourage you to focus on the learning skill section and the recommended next steps as you help your child set goals for next year.
Your child will find out his/her class placement at the beginning of next school year. Our organization is tentative as we need to consider new students and students who might leave over the summer.
It is with sadness, that we say good-bye to Mrs. Diamond for another year. She will be the Acting Vice Principal at Henderson Public School next year. We know that she will be very successful in this role. Mrs. Diamond may return to her teaching position here, but could continue in her VP role, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Diamond for all she has done for our students and our school. She has brought the music program, produced wonderful shows, and exemplary instructional practices. Above all, she has shared her passion for learning and glowing smiles! We will miss her.
I am pleased to welcome Mr. Tim Harris, who will teach Grade 5/6 on a one year term. Mr. Harris was a teacher here several years back and is excited to be returning to Joyceville PS!
It is truly a pleasure and privilege to be your principal. I am inspired by staff, parents and students every day!
Have a fantastic, fun and safe summer!
Sincerely,
Heather Campbell, Principal

2016 Fun Pass Information
This summer, fun costs less.
Through the 2016 Fun Pass, Ontario has 18 popular attractions across the province offering free admission for one child when they are accompanied by a paying adult or senior. Parents also save $2 on a daily parking permit at selected Ontario's provincial parks.
Learning doesn’t stop when school ends. Your kids can learn and have fun during the summer months by visiting one of Ontario’s attractions – from exploring a 200-year old shipwreck at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene to experiencing the world of science through interactive exhibits at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto.
Simply bring a coupon – found in the 2016 Fun Pass booklet or at Ontario.ca/funpass– to any participating attraction. It’s that easy.
Visit our website for more information about the Fun Pass program and to download the e-pass.
