Family Safety Night - Follow Up
On Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00pm we held a parent education night on Family Safety. Mr. Keith Medlin, Chief Information & Technology Officer for Chatham County Schools, shared information on digital safety for school and tips to consider at home. We then discussed some of the drills we practice at Pittsboro to help keep our Panda Family safe. Some of the drills included are Fire, Tornado, Earthquake, and Lockdown for students and staff.
Boosterthon Fun Run this Thursday!
Keep collecting those pledges Pandas!!! Looks like the weather will be warming up for us to enjoy our Fun Run oustide this Thursday, November 21st!
READvolution
Pittsboro Elementary is participating in READvolution! Check your child's folder for this information - any questions, please ask your child's teacher or Mrs. Jeremiah in the library. READvolution is a free reading enjoyment program lasting through November 22nd.
Students who document the time spent reading or being read to outside of school (try for 20 minutes daily) will earn two complimentary Carolina Hurricanes tickets when they read 800 minutes. Spend two minutes watching here to see exactly how to log in online to document your time reading.
Young Authors
2019-2020 - Submissions Due to the school library by Friday, January 17th, 2020!
PES is accepting original stories written by students in grades K-4 for the Chatham County Schools Young Authors writing program. Each year all student authors are invited to write, publish and submit their own book. Judges from the school staff will read and reflect on each book. All students who submit a book for Young Authors will be recognized during school wide celebrations in the spring. Three student authors will be invited to a district wide celebration at Fearrington Village with an anticipated date of Tuesday, April 14th, 2020 at 5:30 pm.
Submission Requirements:
There are no restrictions as to type or length of writing.
The idea and words MUST be the student’s own work.
Help with editing and typing is allowed (please give appropriate credit).
Only one author per book.
Students may enter only one book.
Illustrations are preferred, but not required. Original artwork or photographs by the author - no matter how simple - are the best. While illustrations enhance the enjoyment of the book, the judging is based primarily on the writing.
Each book is required to have the following:
(Books not meeting the criteria will be returned to the student.)
Front cover with the title of the book, the author’s name and an illustration
Back cover
Title page with title, author’s name and date
“About the Author” page
Pages must be numbered.
Stories can be handwritten or typed.
Questions or comments should be directed to Karen Jeremiah, PES school librarian, kjeremiah@chatham.k12.nc.us Feel free to visit the library to see examples of Young Authors books from years past.

Thrift Store Volunteers!
Our volunteers at the Thrift Shop last year helped us to add over $20,600 to our budget for this year. This money pays for field trips, classroom and teacher support, schoolwide projects and clubs and a lot of fun events for the students and community.
We are really struggling to get volunteers to come out for workgroups this year. If the 6-8pm window isn’t working for your schedule, feel free to drop in AT ANY TIME and help in the store! Ask for the manager on duty and let them know you have some time and want to volunteer for Pittsboro Elementary School.
We have our workgroups scheduled through the end of 2019. Check out the schedule, grab a fellow mom or dad, and come out for just ONE workgroup! The hours add up and mean so much for the school!
