Summer Ruminations
From Jadyn's FamFam EDUC 202 Spring 2017
Questions you asked your friends from class...that were never answered:
- Can you be an advocate for the social and educational justice of groups such as Mexican Americans and people with disabilities in every day life? If so, how?
- How do you think that as a teacher you should promote and support students if the school district you are placed in does not want you to be doing so?
- When does it become ok for protestors to use violence, if at all. How long must they go without seeing results from using peaceful tactics until they must resort to more forward measures?
- How can we ensure that more of these stories (the ones that don't make it into the school history books) are told?
- How do you think we should go about dismantling these "stories", within the educational system? Is it the job of the parents, the teachers, the school board or the government?
- How do you think schools can balance the various cultures and identities of their students without leaving anything out? Should there be more choices in history classes in terms of subject matter? How can schools make sure all students feel represented?
- What do you think would be the best way to balance a "student's at-home education and schooling" to provide a student with the best opportunity to succeed?
- As a future teacher, how do you think you would respond if students or parents in your school were protesting against inequities in the school system?
