Wiley Weekly 9/4

Mrs. Wiley's Crew

Dear UMAC Parents,

Our team should be extremely proud of their fine efforts this past week. I would like to extend a warm thank you to all our families for a smooth start to the school year.

I look forward to seeing you at Parent Night, next Thursday, September 10 (6:30pm-7:15pm and 7:30pm-8:15pm). At this time, we will review: classroom policies, procedures, and curriculum. There will also be a sign up list for parents interested in donating and volunteering. This is a night for adults only.

Have a terrific, long weekend!

Mrs. Wiley

MAP Testing

It is that time of year again - MAP Testing (Measure of Academic Progress)! Teachers use this test to find student's instructional level in reading and math. It also provides us with a measure of growth that can be tracked within the school year, and year to year. The Wiley crew will take the reading test on Tuesday, September 8 from 11:20am - 12:20pm.

Native American Cultural Regions

In History Alive, we started chapter three where students are learning about the seven Native American cultural regions that lived in America long ago. Students are learning how one’s environment impacts how they live. As we “visit” each region students are learning about how the Native Americans used the natural resources around them to create artifacts, homes, and clothing in order to survive.

Shared Reading: Lunch Money!

In shared reading, we read a realistic fiction story titled, Lunch Money, by the talented Andrew Clements. Students demonstrated their ability to use a variety of reading strategies as we shared our thinking. We focused on determining the author's purpose for writing the story while also studying the impact illustrations have on a reader.
