The U.S. is shaped by consumerism. It defines who we are and how we live. Since the end of World War II life in the U.S. has been dramatically different and basically better from what came before the war. We find ourselves now at another crossroads - what will the end of the 21st century look like? What goods/services will or are currently available that will forever alter the way the U.S. lives and consumes in the free enterprise system?
TV
TV changed politics - brought the Vietnam War into our homes, expanded pop culture and sports. In 1945 there were only 8,000 tvs by 1960 over 90% of all homes had a tv set
Birth Control Pills
Introduced in 1960 - fewer births in the U.S. decline in U.S. population. Roles of women moved from traditional to modern feminism was born.
Jet Travel
Shrunk the country and the world. Lyear total trave was 61 times greater than 1960. Jet service for consumers began in 1958.
