עמוס עוז הוא סופר ישראלי, סופר, עיתונאי.
שם לידה שלו הוא עמוס קלאוזנר.
הוא שינה את שם משפחתו ל"עוז", בעברית עבור "כוח".
בגיל 15 הוא עבר לגור בקיבוץ.
הוא שירת בצבא ההגנה לישראל.
בסוף 1950 הוא שירת בנח"ל בקיבוץ בכיוון והיה מעורב בתגרות גבול עם סוריה.
במשך המלחמה שישה הימים (1967) הוא היה עם יחידת טנקים בסיני.
במשך מלחמת יום הכיפורים (1973) שירת ברמה הגולן.
הוא למד פילוסופיה וספרות באוניברסיטת עברית בירושלים, והגיע לביקור בחור באוניברסיטת אוקספורד, מחבר ב-מגורים באוניברסיטת עברית ובסופר ב-המגורים במכללת קולורדו.
הוא כבר בשם קצין אמנויות וספרות של צרפת.
מחבר ספר הפרוזה לילדים ומבוגרים, כמו גם מסאי, הוא תורגם לשפות רבות, והוא זכה למוניטין בינלאומי.
מאז 1967, הוא היה עורך דין בולט וקול תרבותי מרכזי של פתרון שתי מדינות לסכסוך ישראלי הפלסטיני.
עבודתו של עוז פורסמה בכ -41 שפות, כולל ערבי ב -35 מדינות.
הוא זכה בהצטיינות ובפרסים רבות, ביניהם אות לגיון הכבוד של צרפת, פרס גתה, פרס נסיך אסטוריאס בספרות, היינריך היה פרס ופרס ישראל.
בשנת 2007, מבחר מהתרגום הסיני של סיפור על אהבה וחושך היה העבודה הראשונה של ספרות עברית המודרנית שתופיע בספר לימוד סיני רשמי.
הוא כבר כיבד עם הצרפתים פרי פמינה ופרנקפורט לשלום לשינה 1992.
הוא מתגורר בעיירה הדרומית ערד ומלמד ספרות באוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב.
Amos Oz is an Israeli writer, novelist, and journalist.
His birth name is Amos Klausner.
He changed his surname (family name) to Oz which means strength in Hebrew.
At the age of 15 he went to live on a kibbutz.
He served in the Israel Defense Forces.
In the late 1950s, he served in the kibbutz-oriented Nahal unit and was involved in border skirmishes with Syria.
During the Six-Day War (1967) he was with a tank unit in Sinai.
During the Yom Kippur War (1973) he served in the Golan Heights.
He studied philosophy and literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and was visiting fellow at Oxford University, author-in- residence at the Hebrew University and writer-in-residence at Colorado College.
He has been named Officer of Arts and Letters of France.
An author of prose for both children and adults, as well as an essayist, he has been widely translated and is internationally acclaimed.
Since 1967, he has been a prominent advocate and major cultural voice of a two-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
Oz's work has been published in some 41 languages, including Arabic in 35 countries.
He has received many honours and awards, among them the Legion of Honour of France, the Goethe Prize, the Prince of Asturias Award in Literature, the Heinrich Heine Prize and the Israel Prize.
In 2007, a selection from the Chinese translation of A Tale of Love and Darkness was the first work of modern Hebrew literature to appear in an official Chinese textbook.
He has been honoured with the French Prix Femina and the 1992 Frankfurt Peace Prize.
He lives in the southern town Arad and teaches literature at Ben Gurion University of the Negev.
