Wildcat Library
Year One of having our Library back
Last year was an wonderful year to be a PHS Wildcat! We got our library back and students reaped the benefits of having books and laptops to borrow. There was 4,449 check outs in the physical library for 2012-13. The last year of our library (2009-10), there was only 2,009 check outs. For our first year eBook library, we had 297 checkouts of audiobooks and eBooks. There has also been a great deal of collection evaluation being done with our books. The average age of our library last year was 1977. This year we are more up to date and in 1988! Books are being reviewed based on relevancy and accurancy for our students.
Reading 24/7
Also last year, thanks to Mrs. Leisure and the TTIPS Grant, we added eBooks with OverDrive. With almost 310 eBooks and audiobooks in our collection, we had 297 checkouts! Now we have iPads and have added a new eBook provider, our students have more opportunities to read anywhere and anytime. Our Media Center is never closed with eBooks!
FollettShelf- another way to read eBooks!
Besides OverDrive we now have FollettShelf. It has almost 80 books on it currently with more to come. The need for an another eBook provider has been apparent with publishers' contacts with the different providers. Now our students have access to eBooks that we could not purchase though OverDrive. FollettShelf is more school-oriented and will give us better research and reference options plus more great YA fiction books!
EBSCO Host - research databases for teachers and students
Also new this year is the EBSCO Host database. Most colleges and universities use EBSCO for their students' research needs. It provides great information without have to filter the sources from the internet. Now the students can have reliable, up-to-date information for all their school assignments.
