Father-Daughter Dance
It's always fun to dress up for a night and go out with a special man - our dads, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, and special friends really made our girls feel special on their special night! The House of Athens sponsored the dance for our girls and their guys and we had a great turn-out. Thanks, Athens, for a great night!
Welcome Coach!
Coach Nunley is new to our school as our PE teacher. However, he fits right in. Coach Nunley is a team player. He is patient. The students KNOW Coach Nunley means business in the gym because they describe him as “nice and strict.” Our students are being challenged by Coach Nunley to each healthy and exercise regularly. One of our first-grade students has been inspired by Coach Nunley to lose weight, eat healthier, and put forth the best effort during class.
Coach Nunley has quickly learned many HGE routines and traditions. He has already developed relationships with parents. His colleagues describe him as “dedicated and loves all the kids.” Coach Nunley has been creative with PE activities. The warm-up exercises have INCREASED with abdominal strength and toning and helping to make our students healthier. We are grateful to have Coach Nunley as a part of our HGE family!

Meet Freddy Cougar!
The Theatre Club at SMS wanted to give back to the school in some way, so they decided to use some of the proceeds from our winter production, A Seussified Christmas Carol, to purchase a mascot costume for the school. The Theatre Club members auditioned for the honor of donning the costume for school-sponsored events.
Next, we just had to determine a name. Students school-wide were asked to complete a Google Form in order to suggest names for our cougar. It was then handed over to the teachers, who voted on their favorites, in order to narrow the choices.
Finally, the students received ballots in their homeroom classes, and the name with the most votes was selected: Freddy Cougar! The entire school pulled together to name our new mascot and leave a lasting legacy at SMS!
