WATER SHOULD BE THE ONLY DRINK SENT IN
We have had a rash of students bringing in sodas, energy drinks, and other beverages to school. Please make sure that your child only brings in water to school. Thank you!
MESSAGE FROM OUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS DIVISION
Colonial School District is continuing to monitor the increased reports of COVID-19 cases nationally. Students and families should refer to Delaware Department of Education’s Isolation and Exposure Guidance for K – 12 School Settings for guidance on testing positive for or exposure to COVID-19. This document will provide information on when you should return to school following a positive test and what to do following exposure.
Families who have any further questions should consult with their primary care provider for specific medical guidance. Your school nurse continues to be available to support your student’s medical needs at school.
Third Grade Parents - Upcoming screener
School districts across the country are recognizing their role in ensuring children develop good social and emotional skills early in life. As a district, we support our students having the opportunity to learn social and emotional skills on a daily basis at school. Recent legislation in Delaware now requires students to participate in a universal social-emotional behavior screening process, just as they participate in reading and math screening.
With this, Wilbur Elementary is conducting universal screening in all of our 3rd grade classrooms to identify students who may benefit from additional social/emotional support throughout the school day. Teachers will receive guidance on promoting wellness in the classroom. All 3rd grade parents will receive a detailed letter with the ability to opt your child out of this screener. In the coming years, Colonial will be gradually rolling the universal screener out to students in other grades.
Due to our district's Wellness policy, as you know, outside foods can't be sent in to school for birthday or holiday celebrations. However, our cafeteria does offer a great option for you! You can order any of the listed snacks or treats a week in advance for your child's birthday and they will be provided that goodie at lunch on the day you specify. The form is attached below and will be in the Family Resources section of Wilbur Words for you starting next week.
We will have arranged for a skating night for Wilbur families only on October 18th from 6:00-8:00 at Christiana Skating Center. (801 Christiana Road Newark, DE 19713)
Join us for a fun night of skating with Wilbur friends!
Admission for skaters is $5.00 at the door and skate rentals are available for $4.00.
NOTE: Students must be supervised by their parents, this is not a drop off event, and all skaters do so at their own risk. Some Wilbur staff may attend, but will not be supervising the event.
PIK MY KID: THE WAY YOU NEED TO MAKE DISMISSAL CHANGES
This year, our school will be continuing the PikMyKid program to help organize the school car rider dismissal process and improve safety. This program uses a phone application downloaded onto your smart phone (found in the app store) and will allow you to notify the school of pick-up changes, authorize others to pick-up your child from the car line, and help organize the car line during pick-up. PikMyKid numbers DO NOT CHANGE FROM YEAR TO YEAR so, if you had a car tag last year, you will be able to use it this school year as well.
The registration process is easy and we ask that all parents register with the phone application as soon as possible, even if your child is a bus rider. All dismissal changes must be done through the PikMyKid app. Dismissal changes stop at 3:00 p.m. so we can prepare for a smooth dismissal and ensure that all teachers have been notified of changes. With almost 1100 students to get safely dismissed, there will be no exceptions to this rule. I'm sorry in advance for any inconvenience!
Several resources are included below to help you understand how to use the application and assist you with this transition. Please make sure you register with your personal current mobile phone number or the app will not allow you to access your child’s information for security reasons.
If you do not think the school has your mobile number on file or if your child does not appear in your app’s home page, contact email@example.com mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org after registration, with your child’s name, school, grade, and updated contact information for you.
Anyone who will be picking up your child will need to have your child(ren)'s PikMyKid number displayed on their dash. You will need to provide them with this information prior to them arriving at Wilbur.
