What a swing in temperatures this week! I guess fall really is trying to entrench itself. I am really glad that we did not have this weather last Friday as we had over 950 people attend our Back to School Bash! It was a great success and a grand time was had by all. If you haven't done so, you can check out pictures and videos on our Twitter feed and on our webpage.
We had a very busy week with PINK week, open house, and the book fair. Thanks so much for heavily supporting each one of these events. PINK week was a huge success. students were very thoughtful about how others have showed them kindness and how to pass it forward. We had many great conversations about what it means to be an "upstander" and how important it is. We really enjoyed seeing so many of you during our open house. I know the staff appreciated the chance to connect with you and show you what your child will be learning/doing this year. Our book fair was also a tremendous success. All week students streamed into the library to purchase a new book or two as well as posters. During open house, it was equally packed. Thanks so much for being such strong supporters of reading. It really does make a huge difference in your child's life!
In conjunction with Thomas, we are celebrating Homecoming next week. Each day will have a theme. Please see the flyer attached to this email for more information. As students are thinking about what to wear each day, please refer to the dress code and costume guidelines located in your child's agenda.
We are looking for some help in a few areas and hope you can support us. One reoccurring situation is students entering the building during the school day with food from an outside vendor. According to NYS law, we cannot permit students to bring food like that into our cafetorium. Therefore, we would ask that you have your child finish their meal prior to arriving at school. We are also continuing to address students wearing large backpacks during the school day. While the string satchels and small utility backpacks are ok to wear during the school day, there is simply no reason for children to need the large ones during the day. They are typically very close to their lockers and can go to their locker between classes. We are going to be discussing this more with the students early next week. So, if you can reinforce this with your child as well, it would be most appreciated.
Next week is our first Coffee with the Principal. It will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am. We will meet in the Willink Library for a bit and then check out what is going on around the building. Hope you can make it!
I hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy the cool temperatures and sunshine!
