Mrs Baker's Class Newsletter

What is going on?

Tomorrow there is an assembly. Please have the kids drop off their backpacks on the porch and proceed to the cafe.

I will be out tomorrow as well. Please talk to your kids about being respectful to our substitute. She is a really nice lady! I want her to come back. wink wink!

FIELD DAY- Please have our kids wear their class t-shirts!

Field day will be on March 15th (the Friday before Spring Break). The schedule for each grade is listed below. In order to make this field day run smoothly, we will be asking for parent volunteers to help run each of the stations, in addition to our 5th grade helpers! Please sign up online ( ) if you can commit to helping us at any of the following sessions on March 15th.

8:00 - 9:40 am 3rd and 5th Grade

10:00 - 11:40 am 2nd and 4th Grade

12:40 - 2:20 pm K and 1st Grade

We have our first Genius Hour presenter on March 12th! Mrs. Gold is going to come in and speak about "How the heart works." We are so lucky to have expert parents at our school. Please let me know if you can come in and speak to the class. What are you an expert in? We want to know! Our kids will remember this for the rest of their lives! Especially your own kids!

KLRU Kids Writing Contest

The KLRU Kids Writing Contest is now open to all students kindergarten through fifth grade in the KLRU viewing area. Stories can be fact or fiction, prose or poetry. Submissions must be received by KLRU by March 31, 2019. Please visit for contest rules and the scoring rubric

The wellness committee wanted to implement recess coverage for teachers once a month. We did not have a lot of response from the first send out of the sign up genius. I think some of them were not forwarded to all of the classroom parents. Can you send the links to your teams and have them put in an email or post on their blogs?

One of the Apex Lessons-

Today’s lesson is about Refueling. We have two tanks that we need to refuel, our Brains & our Bodies! We refuel our brains by giving them a break (setting aside some quiet time so they can recharge: e.g. reading, writing, listening to music, etc). And we refuel our bodies by giving them a boost (moving them at least a little bit every day, eating healthy food to give us energy & by drinking lots of water during the day).

Refueling & taking care of ourselves is important to being a leader. Because in order to take care of other people, like good leaders do, you have to take care of yourself first.

This and that!

Dear Families,

On March 4th we will begin a money unit. We have found that plastic/school money is not quite as good as the real thing when practicing money counting skills. We would like to use real coins (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters) for math this year. Please gather approximately 20 pennies, 10 dimes, 20 nickels and 4 quarters to send to school. We will use these coins for the rest of the year for money practice and will send them home at the end of the school year. Please send the coins to school by Friday, March 9th. Please send money in a ziplock or container labeled with your child’s name.

Thank You,

The Second Grade Team

Have a good weekend!
