Report Cards, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and New Schedules Starting December 7
This edition of my digital newsletter includes some fun videos along important information regarding first quarter report cards, parent-teacher conferences, and new schedules beginning December 7.
First Quarter Report Cards:
We hope to have first quarter report cards ready to go home by Friday, November 20. I will send out a Parent Square notification to let families know when the report cards are sent home. We would like as many parents as possible to have copies of their child's report card prior to parent-teacher conferences the following Monday and Tuesday. For this reason, we will be sending home report cards with our in-person students. For virtual students we will place hard copies in the mail and share a digital copy through email. Again, I will send out a smart alert through Parent Square to let you know that report cards went home so that you can expect them.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 23 from 11:20 AM - 2:40 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:40 PM and on Tuesday, November 24 from 11:20 AM - 2:40 PM. Teachers will be contacting parents this week to schedule a virtual parent-teacher conference. If you would like a parent-teacher conference and have not scheduled it yet, please contact your students homeroom teacher through email or ParentSquare. Details about conferences:
- Dismissal & Lunch: Hybrid (in-person) students will be released from school at 10:30 AM on 11/23 and 11/24. As with all days, students will take home a bagged lunch on conference days.
- Virtual Meeting Link: Teachers will be sharing a Google Meet link that you will be able to use for your virtual parent-teacher conference. If you prefer to have a phone conference instead of a virtual video conference, please let your child's homeroom teacher know and a phone conference will be scheduled instead of a virtual meet. As always, the link will work best on your child's school Chromebook because it is part of the Sodus google account. The link should also work on other home computer desktop, laptop, or Chromebook.
- Conferences Scheduled For 15 Minutes: You will have an opportunity to schedule a 15-minute conference with your child's homeroom teacher. Given that the schedules are virtual, it will be very important that we adhere strictly to the start and end time for the scheduled conference. When you log in for your parent-teacher conference you will have to wait for the teacher to allow you to enter the google meet. This will ensure that all families will have privacy in discussing their child's progress with his or her teachers.
- If you experience technical difficulties: If you or your teacher experiences any difficulty in joining the Google Meet together, your teacher will call you to to conduct the conference over the phone. Given the schedule of conferences, if there are technical difficulties we will need to switch quickly to a phone conference so that conference stay on schedule.
New Schedules
On December 7 we will begin our new schedules for hybrid (in-person) and 100% virtual students. These schedules are being developed based on the preferences parents expressed in the parent survey sent out in October. Your child's schedule is being created based on your choice of instructional program, and it will be in place from December 7 through the end of the year. We are developing a new master schedule and individual student schedules and hope to have new schedules available to parents at parent-teacher conferences. In order to accommodate the number of students switching from virtual to in-person programs, we are adding an additional teacher for in-person instruction in grade 4 and in-person instruction in grade 5, and additional additional teachers for virtual students in grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6. While we will try to limit the number of students who are assigned to a different teacher, but in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines there will be some students who need to be assigned to different teachers beginning December 7. If your child is assigned to a different teacher, notification will be included along with your child's report card.

Intermediate Video Salute To Veterans
This week our Intermediate School celebrated Patriotism Week. The idea for celebrating patriotism came from the work of our Intermediate School Improvement Team several years ago. Patriotism Week has become an wonderful annual tradition for our school community.
In the past Patriotism Week has ended on Friday with a school-wide assembly during which students and staff members invite family members who are either veterans, or currently serving active duty, to be recognized at the assembly for their service to our country.
Unfortunately we were not able to have our annual assembly due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, students and staff members were invited to send the school information and pictures to the school so we could create a video tribute to their service.
Please take a few minutes to watch the video below as we recognize these men and women for their service and sacrifice for our freedom.
