Principal's Update
What a great week to be a Hornet! Apparently, Punxsutawney Phil, the world-famous groundhog, was correct in his prediction of 6 more weeks of winter. It is never an easy decision for Mr. Naugle when he has to cancel school, but he always does his best to use the information he has to make the best decision.
We want to wish our very own Jessica McKenney, 8th grader here at Hermosa, good luck as she competes at the SDHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Monument in Rapid City! This week also marks the end of the 2nd trimester for our junior kindergarten through 3rd-grade students.
It is hard to believe that next week is the end of February already and we kick off March with Read Across America Week as we celebrate the importance of reading for people of all ages. Next Friday and Saturday our boys basketball players wrap up their season at the Cartwright Tournament in Lead-Deadwood. They have had a great season and we wish them luck!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Counselor's Corner
This week's Counseling Guidance Lessons were a little light with the snow day on Wednesday.
A requirement of school counselors is educating students on postsecondary ideas. With younger grades, this can be challenging as their ideas and goals change so much. It starts with talking about what a job/career is, why we have them, and the different ways we get them. 1st Grade explored how we are all unique and because we are all unique we all have different interests which influence what we want to be when we grow up.
In the middle school, half of the 6th Grade learned about Online Bullying. Students felt online bullying happens the most on Snap Chat, group chats, and gaming accounts like Roblox. Students learned six ways to handle online bullying: block, don't retaliate, seek/offer support, document, report and not share posts, or like posts, that make fun of others. Half of the 8th Grade completed their procrastination worksheet. Procrastination, putting things off or avoiding them, only causes more stress in the long run. People have different areas they procrastinate in like getting work done, cleaning, organizing, paying bills, exercising, talking with friends, making plans, etc. Processing reasons why we procrastinate and strategies to help allow us to self-reflect and see where we can improve.
Have a great weekend!
