Week 22
This week, we will be celebrating 'College Color Day' on Wednesday, February 3rd. Please wear your college colors loud and proud!
Last week, we have four students compete in the annual Seguin Spelling Bee. I am so proud of these students ~ Liz, Jacky, Jade, and Nathan!
Texas History
We will be explaining the events that led to the annexation of Texas to the United States, including the impact of the U.S.- Mexican War. We will also identify leaders that were important to the founding of Texas as a republic and state.
Science
We will identify and classify Earth's renewable resources, including air, plants, water, and animals; and nonrenewable resources, including coal, oil, and natural gas; and the importance of conservation.
Math
We will relate decimals to fractions that name the tenths and hundredths place. We will also be using the website Thinking Blocks to model fractions of a number, total or part of a number, and addition and subtraction with like denominators.
Reading
During reading time, we will be working on identifying similarities and differences between the events and characters' experiences in a fictional work and the actual events and experiences described in an author's biography or autobiography. We will use cupcake wrappers to brainstorm and provide visual reference for our comparison pieces.
Writing
This week in writing, we will continue to work on expository writing. We will shake and share, then slide and share our writing. We will also make adjustments after classmates have given 'So, what' comments as well as expository structural elements.
Word Work
Our spelling this week will explore base words with roots and affixes. Our focus will be -ion, -ment, -ly, dis- and pre-) We will also include the following rule in our spelling words with /k/, /ng/, and /kw/
Please look for daily practice at home (aka homework) to resume this week!
