HVMS Update - 9/28/2020
Hello, HVMS Family!
It's hard to believe we are entering our sixth week of school. Thank you to everyone for your continued support as we navigate this new instructional territory! Please take a few minutes to read through the second edition of our bi-weekly e-newsletter to stay up-to-date on what is happening at Hidden Valley Middle School. We have added a few new sections this week: Celebrations, Instruction, and Technology Corner. If you know a student who deserves to be recognized, please let us know! We would love to celebrate our students' successes both inside and outside of this building. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Hidden Valley Middle School

8th Grade Academic & Career Plans
Starting October 5th and continuing until the first of December, all 8th graders (hybrid and 100% online students) will be meeting individually with their counselor through their English classes to work on their Academic and Career Plan (ACP). In the weeks leading up to their individual meeting with a counselor, each student will view a presentation through their English class (both hybrid and 100% online) that will help them access the website, which contains information regarding academic plans, colleges, and careers. The ACP is a tentative plan for high school courses based on graduation requirements, student interest, and academic progress. The ACP is not their registration for high school classes. The HVHS counselors will conduct registration for 9th grade and additional information regarding registration will be sent at a later date.
All hybrid students will be given a copy of their ACP to bring home. We will also email the parent/guardian a copy if you approved emails from Major Clarity when you completed your InfoSnap at the beginning of the school year. The email will come from Major Clarity; the subject will be: Your Student’s Academic Report. There will be a link in the email that will take you to your student’s ACP. Please review and accept your child’s ACP; you can accept with an electronic signature or sign the paper copy and have your child return it to their counselor.
The website address is: platform.majorclarity.com
This is an important step in helping your child prepare for their future in high school and beyond! If you have questions please contact your child’s counselor.

Technology Support
We ask that parents and students direct their technical support requests to hvmtechsupport@rcps.us. This email account is intended to serve our students who are either online only or off campus when the request is sent. Students attending school should notify their teachers of any technical issues so that we may resolve those problems at school.
Please keep in mind that our IT support staff works regular school hours and that requests made after hours or during the weekend will not be addressed until those hours of operation.

SpeakUp
We encourage students to speak up to report bullying and other concerns. SpeakUp is a program where students can send a confidential email, text or phone call to share concerns about a classmate or school safety. Students can send an email to speakup@student.rcps.us, or they can call or text 540-595-0706. All reports are anonymous and will be quickly acted upon. Once a report is sent, school administrators are notified and resources can be deployed depending on the nature of the report.
We are encouraging students to use the SpeakUp program if they are concerned about a student who is being bullied (or is bullying others), if a student is expressing suicidal thoughts, threats of violence, use of weapons, students experiencing crisis or traumatic situations, or other urgent situations. Every report is taken very seriously.
