The Lincoln Log
August 27th, 2023
We hope you have enjoyed the weekend with the much cooler weather. With the unprecedented late August heat this past week, we appreciate your ongoing support and partnership in supporting the safety and learning for all of our Lincoln students. Please continue to send your child with a water bottle each day (pop-top preferred, instead of twist off). We have bottle fillers throughout the building, which students are able to access during classroom breaks and lunch.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us on Thursday for our Fall Curriculum Night; it was exciting to have so many Lincoln families back in our school hallways. Photos from our kindergarten and first grade sessions are included below. If you were not able to join us, please make sure to reach out to your child's teacher for any important information that was shared.
Looking forward to a wonderful week 3 and REMEMBER, it's ALWAYS a GREAT DAY to be an EAGLE!
Regards,
Mrs. Eklund, Principal
Ms. Guerrero, Asst. Principal
CURRICULUM NIGHT
First 20 Days
Students were also introduced to ALL Lincoln staff through a We are Lincoln video. As a school community, it is important that all adults support and hold students to our PBIS and behavioral goals/expectations, and students know all our Lincoln staff, who are focused on keeping them safe and accountable. We are Lincoln is linked below; we encourage all families to also watch the video together to meet our Lincoln staff.
Our Lincoln Instructional Goals
As we work to ensure academic and behavioral success for all of our Lincoln students, we have developed our 2023-2024 Instructional Goals as part of the School Improvement Planning (SIP) Process. Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to these goals and why they are important work for our school. Then, over the course of the year, we will share updates and progress on these goals.
Our first SIP goal focuses on creating clarity for our staff and students through the use of targets and success criteria. Targets help students understand the goals and objectives for specific learning experiences, along with why these goals are important. Success criteria are actionable outcomes for students that help to them know what they must be able to do in order to achieve the learning target. Our goal reads:
Here are some examples from our Lincoln classrooms. The first picture shows learning targets and success criteria from a 5th grade class; the second picture shows language targets from a 1st grade classroom.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS @ LINCOLN
In our previous Lincoln Logs, we shared the importance of attendance for students, along with our Lincoln attendance motto: BE HERE, BE ON TIME & STAY ALL DAY! EVERY DAY COUNTS! Being in class supports student learning and provides them key opportunities to interact with peers in academic and social experiences.
During the 2022-23 school year, our overall attendance rate was at 91% with 1/3 of Lincoln students being chronically absent (being absent more than 10% of school days [~18 day]). As part of our SIP plan, we have set a goal of 95% overall attendance for the 2023-24 school year and of decreasing chronic absenteeism. We need your help in this work! Some things you can do include: Set regular bedtime and morning routines; develop back-up plans for getting students to school if something arises; and schedule appointments outside of school hours & vacations during regularly scheduled recesses.
OUR CURRENT OVERALL ATTENDANCE FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR IS 94.5%.
Here is our Lincoln attendance for this school year by week.
