BBE Weekly Update

Aug 17 - 21

Message from the Principal

We've had a great first full week of school. Grade level classes graced us with their presence in the building. Sending your kids to school really gave our teachers that extra and additional spark of energy. It reminded them that they are called to help kids live, learn, and love.

We are learning a lot more about canvas, and we hope that you are too. Remember to complete the student assignments for math, reading, science, and social studies. These assignments are called asynchronous activities. Students will complete them through various apps like seesaw, Desmos, Think Through Math, and EdLearning. These asynchronous assignments, that are submitted by the student, will impact their attendance and grades. Second grade, Third grade, and Fourth grade will be be taking grades. For the fall semester, Kinder and 1st grade will have regular parent conference to update the parents on their child's progress. Click here for the District's Grading guidelines.

Our music, art, and PE canvas courses should be showing on your child's dashboard. Music and art are intended for one activity per week. For PE, we are asking a minimum of 3 activities for the week.

Learning Option Selections

If you have already completed the learning option survey, you do not need to do it again.

Parents and Guardians,

Bear Branch Elementary is preparing to have students return to school for on-campus learning starting on September 8th pending the guidance Magnolia ISD receives from Montgomery County Public Health Authority and Montgomery County Hospital District the week of August 24. In order to plan appropriately, we are asking you to complete the survey below indicating which learning option you are selecting for your child.

  • On-Campus Learning: Students and teachers will attend traditional class in-person, five days a week, with additional safety measures in place that align with state and federal guidelines and recommendations.

  • Virtual School: Virtual (remote) learning consisting of both synchronous (live) and asynchronous instruction.

The form is now open and will close on Monday, August 24 at noon. Families who have not made a selection by August 24 at noon will be auto-enrolled in on-campus learning.

Meet our Art Teacher: Mrs. Barker

Mrs. Barker loves Art! She enjoys creating her own artwork, visiting art galleries, and teaching art to children. Not only does she take pleasure in sharing her knowledge about art, she wants her students to experience art and understand how much it affects their lives. She loves building self-esteem in her students and challenging them to find their inner artist.

Mrs. Barker began her journey with art over 25 years ago. She would spend every summer with her grandmother who was herself an amazing artist. Her grandmother helped nurture her imagination, curiosity, and love of art. Mrs. Barker strives to do the same with all of her students and children.

Mrs. Barker graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She completed her college internship at the UTSA Art Gallery and Joan Grona Gallery in Downtown San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Barker moved to Mullin, Texas with her husband, Kody, in 2012. She worked for Mullin ISD as their Director of PEIMS for seven years. In 2019, she received her Early Childhood through Grade Six Teaching Certification and began her teaching career at Magnolia ISD. This year will be Mrs. Barker’s second year teaching art.

In her free time she likes to travel, visit artsy shops, and spend time with family and friends. She and her husband have two amazing children who both attend Bear Branch Elementary. Her daughter, Lovelynn, is in the third grade and her son, Wyatt, is in Pre-K.
