As a part of our screening and identification process for students with gifted cognitive abilities, all students in 3rd and 5th grade will be screened one time this year using the CogAT 7 screening tool in the coming weeks. This 30 minute screening measures reasoning and problem solving skills in the areas of 1) verbal, 2) quantitative (mathematics), 3) spatial or non-verbal (using shapes and figures to solve problems). Students that score well on the CogAT may engage in additional assessments to determine identification for gifted cognitive abilities. If additional assessments are needed parents will be notified with further information. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Swanson (Horizon).
