FRESHMAN IMPACT PROGRAM - Monday September 25th
On Monday, September 25th, we are hosting a Freshman Impact Program at the High School. This program is being organized by Officer Vanderlinden from the Parkston Police Department in cooperation with other local law enforcement/fire/medical departments. Freshman from Parkston and 5 other local school districts will be in our school building on this day. We will also have 15 of our older students that have volunteered to help us with the day as well.
So what is a Freshman Impact Program?
Freshman Impact: Caught in the Moment is a powerful one-day prevention program for young teenage students. The students see up close and learn through hands-on activities the possible consequences of wrong choices and the lasting effects physically and emotionally on their bodies, their families and friends, and their community. The program promotes communication and developing rapport between the youth and law enforcement / fire / rescue personnel. If you would like more info, there are videos and lots of extra information on the following website: www.freshmanimpact.com
What do parents and community need to know about the day?
First, All freshman and volunteers were sent home with a waiver form. Please return these waivers to the HS office by this Thursday, September 14th. Second, everyone in the community should be aware that part of the Freshman Impact Program is a Mock Vehicle Crash Scene in the afternoon. On that day, there will be calls over the police and fire department scanners to respond to a crash scene at the intersection just to the northwest of our school near the practice football field. We want to give everyone a heads up so that they know that this is a drill and not a real accident that they are being called to respond to on the afternoon of the 25th. We will send out a reminder on that day as well.
This has the potential to be an impactful day for our young students. Parents are also able to attend the day if they so choose, they can fill out a waiver and participate if they would like. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Mr. Knippling in the high school office. Thank you!
