PLP Weekly Update!

Welcome to the one stop for all your PLP need-to-knows!

A Big Thank you!

Dear PLP Students,

We wanted to thank you very much for not only your attendance at Monday night's speaker, but for your acute attentiveness. President Trible mentioned to us how impressed he was with the engaged audience and that he didn't see a single disruption or glowing cell phone light. Gary Haugen, the President and CEO of the International Justice Mission (IJM) appreciated the opportunity to speak to our PLP student body and enjoyed speaking with some of you all afterward. Thank you to everyone who contributed donations to the cause, we totaled $639.16 to which President and Rosemary Trible will match. The donations will be going directly to the International Justice Mission. If you would like to contribute a donation, we will continue to collect donations through the end of this week in the PLP Office. Or, keep your eye out for the CNU Chapter of IJM promoting Justice Week events (happening through the end of this week) who will also continue to collect donations.

Thank you again for your attention and support.

The PLP Staff

All Leadership electives which are offered will count towards the Leadership minor, even if not listed in your incoming-year catalog. Thus, for example, LDSP 380 and LDSP 250 will count as electives towards the Leadership minor for you who entered CNU before Fall 2013, even though not listed in your catalog.

How is PLP Helping with SOCKTOBER?

So here in PLP we will be collecting new socks from anyone who wants to donate between now and November 1st. The socks will then be delivered to LINK and HELP shelters here in Newport News. All donations can be brought to the PLP office and we will coordinate drop off at the shelters. It is a small gesture but it gets us started making an pair of socks at a time. Check out Kid President's call to action below:

Panel discussion on rape culture and sexual violence

Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 4pm

Freeman 201

The Women and Gender Studies Department has partnered with the Feminist Alliance to put on this event. It is an informational panel discussion in which we hope to facilitate an honest conversation with local experts on how rape culture affects society's perceptions and reactions to sexual violence, and how these affect the men and women surviving it. The panel will deal specifically with the issues of sexual violence that occur on college campuses as well as how rape culture contributes to this problem in both these smaller communities and in a much broader social context. Students will benefit from the panel by gaining a general understanding of the pervasiveness of this cultural phenomenon and address ways in which we can begin to combat these issues.

Lincoln showing

Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 7-9pm
