Learning at Home
Tips and tricks from Elyria City School District
I hope this message finds you safe and well and settling into the second semester of school.
It's wonderful to see our physical classrooms once again alive with in-person learning and activities.
We're still coping with the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic and following developments with the virus. We are hopeful for a full return to in-person learning for all students next fall but we will, of course, keep you abreast of any new information.
As you may know, school employees have been prioritized in the Governor's roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine in Ohio.
The staff of Elyria Schools is eligible to receive the first dose of the vaccine on Friday, February 26. The second dose will be administered three or four weeks later depending on the brand of vaccine that is dispensed.
The vaccine clinics are organized by Lorain County Public Health, and school employees are required to adhere to the schedule that is designed by the health department for each clinic day.
In planning for the unknowns of the two vaccination clinics, teachers will assign work for all students to work independently from home on February 26 and also on the follow-up day several weeks later for the second dose of the vaccine (yet to be determined.)
Teachers and school staff are working on these two dates, as well, but they will not be providing in-person or virtual instruction. They will ensure that students have their assignments available to them through Google Classroom.
More information will be provided by building principals and teachers as we near the vaccination dates.
As always, thank you for understanding and support and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
You may connect directly with your students' teachers and principals by emailing their last name first name at elyria schools dot org (for example, firstname.lastname@example.org) or email us anytime at email@example.com.
School Day Reminder: February 17
In-person students of Cohort A (K-8), and all Virtual Academy students (K-8), will follow their regular school schedule (in-person or virtually) on Wednesday, February 17. (No changes to elementary-level Cohort B schedule.)
Additionally, students on the four-day-a-week schedule, including all Elyria High School students and all preschool students, will follow their regular school-day schedule, attending either in-person or virtually, on February 17.
Please reach out to your student's building principal or teacher if you should have any questions.
