Together We Will Learn, Excel, and Succeed
September 2020, Volume 1
Introduction
My name is Laura Hanlon and I am the new Behavioral Support Specialist here at LES.
I hope to provide some helpful, encouraging information, tips, and/or links here! Please feel free to reach out to me and let me know any topics that you think might be helpful to include.
How Are Things Going?
What do the kids think? I have found (and perhaps you have too) that our kids can provide much insight into these conversations! And often when they do it creates more ownership for them when it comes to possible changes.
The SMART goal setting form in the video linked below is a simple tool that some of you might find useful. See if there is a goal your child(ren) can come up with related to how they go through their school day at home, to make it better. There are all sorts out on the internet but I drew the form on this video with my own kids in the spring and we put it right in/near their workspace.
Perspective Taking in Conflict
The article linked below takes a practical and helpful look at the conflict cycle and how important it is to acknowledge the perspectives of the persons involved, including our own. We each have a view that is unique to ourselves. Learning to hit a mental pause button and considering this can -potentially- help us respond more effectively. As a parent myself, the approach referenced in the article- which I first learned about in my 20's- has helped me more times than I could possibly count.
