Albert Einstein once said "Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This week during Teacher Inservice, staff spent some time digging deeper into the differences between Equity and Equality and how to serve our community equitably. Below is just an example to help create some more understanding.

Next week starts Fire Prevention Week. The Town of Burlington Fire Department is busy creating some Virtual Visits for our students. They will also be bringing home activity books to explore together. Please take some time to check those smoke alarms and make a plan for exiting your home quickly in case there's a fire. Here are some Helpful Tips to get you started in making your home safe.

JEDI Picture Day and Picture Re-take Day is October 19th!

In- Person students: Pictures will be taken from 11:00 -12:30. If you would like retakes, please send your pictures or proofs back with your child to return to the photographer.

JEDI Students: Parents will need to sign up for time slots between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

Please open the link JEDI Picture Day 2020 to review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. 2 students will be allowed in the gym for each time slot. Parents should pull up in the drive to drop off. Only students will be allowed in the gym for pictures. Staff will be available to greet them at the door and assist as needed.

October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Bullying may negatively impact a student's connection with school, their engagement with the curriculum, and their overall ability to learn.

The goal: encourage schools, communities, and organizations to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages.

The first step: try to make friends with someone you don’t know at school. #blueup


Attend an upcoming presentation on "Approaching Racism with Compassion and Humility" through Parents United. 25 participants are allowed to attend in person, but there is also a virtual option through Zoom. You indicate your preference during registration. Please see the link above for additional information.
