RSU 57 Community Newsletter

Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
Today’s date is a solemn one for our nation. On this day it is important for us to pause and remember both those who were lost on September 11, 2001 and give thanks to the first responders and everyday heroes who risked everything in response to those tragic events. I wish to express my personal gratitude to those who serve as a first responder and to those who serve our country in our nation’s Armed Forces.
We enter the third week of the school year and our first full five school day week. We’ve survived a late summer heat wave and I am hopeful that the fall temperatures are here to stay. Despite the heat, our students and staff rose to the occasion with great resilience and poise. In hot classrooms, hallways and gymnasiums I witnessed children with smiles, focused and ready to learn and staff expressing enthusiasm and compassion in their work with students. I thank the amazing educators, support staff and operations staff of our district for their unwavering professionalism despite challenging circumstances.
The start of the school year has proven to be a huge success. We are seeing increased participation in our middle and high school athletic programs, our PreK programs are filled to their capacity and our overall district’s student enrollment has continued to increase. I believe these are indicators that the hard work of our district staff and leadership is paying off as RSU 57 programming has attracted more families to our six communities.
While much has been accomplished much more is left to be done. To that end, the RSU 57 Strategic Planning Committee will be submitting its final draft of the RSU 57 Strategic Plan to our school board this Wednesday evening. The hope is to gain feedback from the board with a revised and final plan to be approved by the school board on September 27. The adoption of this Strategic Plan will set the course for education in RSU 57 for both the immediate and distant future. The plan is comprehensive and will require the collective efforts of our entire RSU 57 community to bring to fruition. I am eager to begin this work with the families, students, staff and community members in RSU 57 as we work together for the ultimate goal of accomplishing our District Mission, “Preparing all students for success in an ever-changing world.”
Respectfully,
Dr. Stephen Marquis
