BIS Newsletter - Week 1 Term 4 2022
Thursday 20th October, 2022
Welcome back to a new term and hopefully, to summer.
While you were on break we have had painters, builders and contractors in and around school improving our environment. The whole school exterior is being repainted this term. This is to freshen up the colours and ensure that the school is being well maintained. There will be no disruption to learning.
The hall was modified in the previous term and the land at the end of the hall has now been fully transformed into an amazing sports area. We now have a new turfed basketball and tapaue court, 4 square grids and a brand new beach volley ball court. This has already been a huge hit with our students who are loving the new sports spaces. We were incredibly fortunate to have the expertise and knowledge from the team at Game On Turf create and build these spaces for us. They look amazing and I hope you can all pop in to check them out.
Our value focus for term 4 is mahi tahi, team work. We are looking forward to seeing our students gain confidence and skill to work in a team, take on leadership roles and be an active participant in group problem solving situations. We have a new model for block sport that begins this week with whole school sports afternoons led by student leaders in house teams. As well as being fun, competitive and sporty, we hope to see team work skills developing.
In December we have a week of outdoor activity planned for all students and the team work skills developed throughout the term will be put to good use in the great outdoors.
This weekend is a long weekend for Labour Day. Please enjoy the day off and we look forward to seeing your children back at school on Tuesday.

Camp and EOTC Fundraising
We have set a goal to have every child participate in outdoor education this year. For year 7 students, it is a week of outdoor activities. For year 8 students it is the camp at Ngaruawahia. This all happens the week beginning Monday 5 December.
Many families have started making regular payments to pay off the costs of these activities. We are also doing a variety of fundraising activities to help with the costs. At the moment we are selling the Juicies Ice Blocks and students are doing a walk-a-thon activity to raise funds for their own week of activity.
Please support these fundraisers as it ensures students who may not have the financial means to get to camp have this opportunity as well as reducing the costs for all students.
Health, Hygiene and Sun Care in Term 4
Term 4 is warmer so we will be increasing ventilation by having doors and windows open to promote a cross breeze in the classroom. It is also sunny so students need to ensure they wear our school hat and have adequate sun screen on each day. School sun hats are available from the Warehouse in Glenfield.
