Trojan Update
January 28th, 2018
It's CRAB Feed Week!
Last week, our ASB students celebrated Kindness Week, an extension of our beginning of the year focus and a reminder that simply being kind can change the world. As you read this update, think about ways today can be one where you lead others with kindness!
Please see below for various articles and updates. A few important reminders:
** It's Crab Feed Week! Hope to see many of you at the Crab Feed this Saturday at Herzog Hall at 6PM. This is the most important fundraiser for athletics during the year and also a great time out! Please see the flyer below.
**Registration for Fall 2019 is now underway. Please see the article below on registration. Remember: you can view the course catalog at this link: https://www.petalumacityschools.org/domain/533
**Wrestling continued its shiny season, still unbeaten as they look toward a huge meet on January 30th at home vs. Casa (Senior Night). Make plans to check out that meet in the PHS Gym.
**Our WASC accreditation visit is coming up in 2019-20. We are beginning the work of looking closely at our teaching and learning practice. We will be reaching out to our parents and students in the coming weeks and months to help us with this work.
Have a terrific week!

Lady Trojans Marching Through Soccer Season; Huge Game This Wednesday
This Wednesday, the Trojans are looking to upend their cross town rival Gauchos who are also having a strong season. Their first meeting ended in a 1-1 draw so this match up will carry bragging rights. The Trojans are looking to solidify their #1 ranking in the North Coast Section Division 3 standings. Head over to Casa to support the team this Wednesday. Go Trojans! Well done, Coach Babala, in leading the squad.
Poetry Out Loud!
This month, students will participate in the Poetry Out Loud competition here at Petaluma High. From their website: "Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 schools in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico."
Our PHS Honors English 9 students are working with local poet and Poetry Out Loud coach Sandra Anfang and teacher Krista O'Connor to memorize and perform a poem during in-class competitions to prepare for the school-wide competition on January 30. From there, we will advance one winner to the Sonoma County competition on February 11 at the Sonoma County Central Library in Santa Rosa. State competitions follow in March, culminating with a national competition in Washington, DC in April. Good luck to all of our PHS competitors!
