Van Wert Bands
September 6
Holiday Weekend
Two weeks of school completed and things are becoming "normal". Masks, sanitizer, distancing... we are really getting into the groove of it. Right now everything takes more effort, more thought, more sweat. Everything feels like starting over. It is nice to have a 3 day weekend to recharge the batteries, take some naps, read a book, put together the newsletter... wait a second! Enjoy your weekend!
NEW UNIFORMS!
The first time out in our new uniforms was an awesome experience. We've had a LOT of positive comments!! They look good and they feel good!
Reportedly even the radio announcers were impressed!
Fins?? Why fins?
Those aren't "fins"... they are called "gauntlets". They are like dressy cuffs. No only do they dress up the uniform but they also hide any issues with the hem of the sleeve not being the perfect length. They also add a strength of line to the arm. We love the dressy, strong look.
VWs everywhere!!
When we designed the uniform with the Fred J Miller company we wanted a unique look that said "Van Wert" all over it. Notice the hat wrap has a black "V" off set to the side on a field of red and grey. The jacket has a large red "W" as well as a V and W created by the black criss-cross design. And a silver V up near the neck line. Did you notice the triangle mirror on the hat wrap? Look close it adds another dimension of a W in combination with the black V. The angles of lines and zig-zags create a lot of Vs and Ws all over the uniform. While this is perhaps the first uniform that doesn't literally say "Van Wert" anywhere on it... I think it makes it's point.
Hat wrap? Did he say "hat wrap"?
YES! The hat you saw on Friday night is actually a fake fabric wrap that goes around a classic "shako". Look closely from the back and you'll see that there is a line of velcro in the back. For home games and special occasions we'll wear the wrap and plume (14" plume if you are wondering). For away games or rainy weather we'll wear just the black shako.
Did you miss anything?
Friday night's full performance of FEAR not only featured our new uniforms but also props, sound effects, costuming of our "damsel in distress" and did you notice all of those paint jobs on the doors? Did all the doors spin? Where both sides of the doors the same? Sure our heroine escapes but through which door? What was on the other side of the door? Where did that door start? So many questions... so much to look at. Don't worry... you can see this show again on Sept 18 at the home game versus St. Marys. Look closer this time and see if you can find over 20 hints and homages to classic scary TV and movie stories. Don't worry - we'll eventually let you in on all the secrets!!
Reminder
Reminder... not having bands at away games is NOT a local decision. It isn't even a WBL decision. A statewide mandate is the reason you haven't seen another band at our home games and you won't see us this weekend at Wapak. We miss hosting other bands and visiting other sites with our shows.
THIS WEEK'S PERFORMANCE
Due to a statewide mandate restricting "away bands" from traveling there will not be a performance this coming Friday night.
