Who Is the Vanguard Team?

Vanguard members are teachers, METIs, administrators, coaches, and others whose mission is to build the capacity of FCS educators and leaders to provide innovative instruction which meets the needs, skills and interests of all students.


Each school should have a minimum of four members. (For a variety of reasons, some schools may have more than 4 members.)

"Before Vanguard I would struggle personally with my teaching. I always felt I was doing something wrong. I was different, that much I knew, and my administrators and co workers didn’t really understand how my classroom worked. When I joined Vanguard I realized I wasn’t doing anything wrong and I was innovative. It was the first time in my career as a teacher I was able to connect with like minded people who not only reinvented the wheel, but got rid of the wheel and started designing rockets. Now I work with colleagues from other schools on developing my personalized, digital classroom and have the opportunities for training and support I never had when I was on my own."

  • have strong pedagogy and content knowledge.
  • have an understanding of and a strong belief in the benefit of personalized learning for students.
  • demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • posses a willingness to try new things and be open to different experiences and opportunities.

Well.....sort of. While we are tech-savvy, our focus is on purposeful and intentional instruction. Instructional technology is one aspect of what makes personalized learning successful, and our team members coach others on innovative ways to use that technology in their classrooms.

HOW DO I APPLY?

1. Review the Application Rubric

This rubric will help guide you in the completion of the application. We use this rubric as a reference for inviting applicants to the interview phase.

2. Watch the Sample EdTech Philosophy Video

This sample comes from an applicant that joined our team in Fall 2015. You can create your own video in whichever way you would like.

This is a Google Form and you are unable to save your answers. We recommend typing your answers in Word or Google Docs so you do not lose any work before submission.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Vanguard Interviews

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If your application is approved, you will be contacted about setting up a virtual interview. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Tuesday, May 24.
