Brenda's Zoller's Design Thinking Challenge

Inspired by the great design thinker, Leonardo Da Vinci, students in Mrs. Zoller's class were challenged to design a flying machine for a lego person. After meeting to sketch their designs, each team selected their materials and built their prototype. After several redesigns, the groups headed out to the playground to test the machine's flying ability from atop the slide. Fortunately, no lego people were harmed during the testing!

Susan Wezet and Barb Williams - Pay It Forward

Recently, the Marrs fifth grade students participated in a Pay It Forward activity. The 48 students were given $5.00 from our PTO, and they were challenged by their two teachers, Mrs. Wezet and Mrs. Williams, to go make a difference in the world. The four local charities selected to receive donations were Posey County Humane Society, Posey County Relay for Life, Ronald McDonald House, and Mt. Vernon Homeless Shelter.

The students worked in small groups to raise funds or donate supplies. They were required to write an article and design a poster to give information about their organization and what they did to Pay It Forward. On May 3 the four representatives from the organizations came to Marrs Elementary, and they were presented with their donations.

Forty-eight fifth graders started with $240.00 and ended up giving $2965.60 to these four local organizations. They also donated supplies requested by these organizations. Marrs Elementary challenges you to PAY IT FORWARD!
