Important News for You!
Dear Thomson Families,
Spring has sprung! In Michigan, springtime often means road construction and Davison is full of orange barrels. If you are transporting your child, please be mindful that it may take more time to navigate your way to Thomson for both arrival and dismissal.
In May, we have our spring assessments. Your child's teacher will communicate important dates with you. It's always a great reminder with the longer days and spring activities to make sure that our students are still getting a good night's rest. It is recommended that children ages 6 - 12 years old aim for 9 -10 hours of sleep every night. They say a good measure for this is to work backwards from the time they need to wake up. If your child has to wake up at 7:00, then they should be in bed by 9. Sleep is important for good health and focus!
In this newsletter you will find important information about our upcoming Farm Day (April 29th), Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, School of Choice Window, teacher requests for 2022-23, and more. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping your child learn and grow. I appreciate all you are doing to support your children and our school!
Respectfully,
Respectfully,
Natalie Miller

The Thomson PTO needs your help. There are 55 staff members who need to know how much we appreciate everything they do for the students, each other and our community.
Do you or someone you know own a business that would like to donate gift cards or a gift basket?
Would you like to donate your own gift card, pre-made gift basket, or new items to be added to gift baskets? Donations will be accepted at the Thomson main office from April 5th-29th. Donations may be combined with others and the staff will receive them by raffle on May 6th.
If you have any questions please reach out on our Thomson PTO Facebook page or check out the Sign-up Genius we have posted there for ideas and other needs.

Teacher Requests
Davison Community Schools is fortunate to have talented and dedicated teachers on staff in every one of our schools. Our teachers believe in working with parents so that children can excel and be successful. Sometimes, parents like to make requests for the teacher they would like their child to have the following school year. Whenever possible, our building principals will try to respect parental requests. However, please know that in some instances, a parent’s request might not be in the child’s best interest. A child’s learning style, how he/she interacts with other students, special academic and elective needs, are some of the factors used in determining the placement of your child.
If you would like to request a teacher for your child next year, please complete the teacher request form at: https://forms.gle/pdhdD3evT9hFEWF2A .
Requests will be accepted beginning Monday, April 18th at 8 am and must be completed by Friday, April 29th at 4 pm to be considered.
Please note that this request does not guarantee your child’s placement with that teacher. Many factors go into a child’s final placement. The deadline is in place so schools can begin the scheduling process for the upcoming school year.
Completion of this form is not required.
Schools of Choice
The application period for Schools of Choice for the 2022-23 school year will be May 6-20.
Davison Community Schools will be accepting limited applications for non-resident students under Sections 105 and 105c Schools of Choice for the 2022/2023 school year. Acceptance under either plan will be based on limited availability and elementary students will be placed in school buildings according to equalized space available in all classrooms.
The application period for each program will be:
- 105c Schools of Choice, May 6-20, 2022: The District will accept applications for pupils whose district of residency is outside of Genesee County in districts within the following bordering counties: Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Tuscola.
- 105 Schools of Choice, May 6-20, 2022: The District will accept applications for pupils whose district of residency is in Genesee County.
Schools of Choice applications will be available on our website beginning at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, until 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022. Applications cannot be distributed or accepted outside the application period. Applicants will need to provide a copy of a valid driver’s license or some other proof of non-resident status.
In addition, a copy of the student’s behavior report for the past two years MUST be submitted with each application (for enrollment in grades 1 through 12).
IMPORTANT: The student’s Schools of Choice application will not be accepted without a copy of a behavior report for each of the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years or a document from the school(s) attended in 2020-21 and 2021-22 on the school district’s letterhead, including dates of enrollment and signed by a school representative indicating there is no behavior record for the student.
Students who have been suspended, expelled or withdrawn in lieu of expulsion within the last two years may be denied enrollment in the district under the 105 and 105c Schools of Choice guidelines.
Parents of Schools of Choice students are responsible for transporting their children to and from school.
Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022. Applications will not be accepted after that time.
